The novel investigates the journey of a young historian named Ibrahim. His family traces its lineage in a picturesque village called Mount Roechus, the houses dotting the area with an ancient tree they call the Guardian.

Through the whispers of old and a tattered journal, Ibrahim comes across artifacts that, in many ways, tell his family's history, their struggle, achievement, and wisdom. A tapestry that depicts scenes of hardship and resilience reveals the influence of past events on his personal life, particularly that of gender dynamics on his family.

He comes across references to Haleema, a strong female ancestor who was exiled because of her relationship with nature and healing. Ibrahim applies Haleema's story to his own purpose.

As per a vision, he goes into the woods and finds a secret spring for Haleema's healing powers. Thus, he becomes a bridge between yesterday and today, utilizing his newfound knowledge to heal the land. The old man of Mount Roechus, Raja, turns out to be the mentor of Ibrahim.

Raja, an ancient guardian of all knowledge, shares his wisdom and helps Ibrahim understand his role as a keeper of the land's legacy. The two, along with the villagers, are reviving old traditions of healing and sustainable living.

The story thus brings out the value of the knowledge of the ancestors, the interconnection of all living things, and the role of unity in maintaining traditions in a changing world.
