Anna felt the cold wind swirling around her as she faced the imposing mansion her heart racing with nervousness. Clutching her belongings tightly she paused briefly a sense of unease creeping over her. Despite the fear gripping her she knew she couldn’t retreat now not after her husbands mysterious disappearance had pushed her to an edge.

Summoning all her strength Anna approached the entrance of the mansion the massive wooden doors looming before her ominously. With a quivering hand she lifted the brass knocker. As it struck against the door, its echo pierced through the night.

Moments dragged on as she waited before the doors slowly creaked open revealing a lit foyer inside. Annas heart raced as she crossed over into the threshold feeling the weight of her decision settle heavily upon her shoulders.

Inside dust and decay filled the air while flickering candlelight cast shadows along the walls. Her footsteps echoed through the corridor as she ventured deeper into the mansion every sense heightened in search of any trace of her vanished husband.

Suddenly a figure emerged from, behind a veil of darkness causing Anna to startle in surprise.

Miss Evelyn, the caretaker of the mansion had a gaze hidden beneath her hat as she spoke to Anna in a gravelly voice.

Anna she uttered softly her tone filled with gravel. What brings you back, to this haunted place?

Anna felt her nerves fraying as she struggled to speak. I I’m searching for my husband she managed to say in an voice. He vanished without a trace. I suspect he was working here before he disappeared.
