CHAPTER 1:
LOVE HURTS
Fred’s story:
Harriet was the most beautiful and grounded 19 year old girl I had ever met. I was in my sophomore year while she was in her first year.
The first time I saw her, I was starstruck! She was in a blue and white floral long fitting dress. Her beauty, soft-spoken demeanor and angelic smile blew my mind. She made me stop seeing my other girlfriends. To see her, I would drive for 2 long hours to her apartment.
We dated and I courted her for a long time. She was not an easy one. My Harriet made me earn her. That gave me the thrill to keep pursuing her. When she accepted to be my girlfriend, I was the happiest man alive. I was excited to introduce her to my family. Little did I know that she would turn the light in my eyes into a dark shade.
On the evening of the day I introduced her to my family, I wore a navy blue and white checked short-sleeved shirt, navy blue official pants and black leather shoes. Darnell, my barber, trimmed my hair in a box design. I gave Harriet money to shop for outfits and do her hair. I picked her up and she looked stunning in the pink and yellow peplum dress and transparent heels.
Hey beautiful, wow! You look gorgeous.
I complimented her.
Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself, handsome.
she smiled back.
I opened the passenger door to usher her in and drove home.
My parents, aunty June and siblings gave us a warm welcome. My mum reached out to hug Harriet, Welcome home.
Thank you.
Harriet smiled back and received the embrace.
While setting up the table, aunty June called me to the kitchen and whispered, Fred, I don't think you're ready for a serious relationship. Just don't rush.
I didn't pay much attention to that. I was in love with the girl of my dreams. I was going to marry her!
Our relationship was the longest I had ever been in.
It was beautiful and slow. Constant communication, courtesy, her vulnerability and openness swept me off my feet. She often cooked my favorite meal and wow! My baby could whip a meal! For this reason, she made me want to do anything for her. I started working as an Uber driver so that I could provide her with some allowance as she went to college.
Our relationship was going well until the fateful Saturday.
It was a slow day at work so I decided to surprise my queen with some of her favorite take outs.
I bought her butter chicken breasts, sauteed potatoes and soda.
I drove to her apartment and parked in the visitor's parking space. While I was on the way to her house, from the balcony, I saw a man leave the corridor near her house. I ignored it and assumed he was a neighbor's visitor.
I saw him get into a car and drive off. I went into my queen's house and as I opened the door, I found her quickly spreading the already messed up bed.
I imagined she had just woken up from her beauty sleep.
We hugged and kissed and oh! The beautiful taste of her soft lips excited my member!
She was so happy to receive the gifts I brought her and her smile warmed my heart. I was a happy man.
I decided to take a nap before resuming work while she went to take a shower.
While I had just started to enjoy my nap, her phone began ringing. The ringtone disrupted my sleep so I had to get up and reduce the volume.
While reducing the volume, a message popped up which said, I left a condom in the drawer for next time. Hopefully it won't burst. Make sure you take the pill.
I was hurt, shaken and I felt wizzy. I felt like my entire world was crashing into pieces.
What did I just read????
The love of my life couldn't have... No, no, no! NO! No! She.... She couldn't have. I refuse to imagine.. No!
She came to the room and I immediately asked her, The guy I saw leaving in the car parked outside, who is he?
Which one?
she asked.
The guy I passed along the corridor.
I don't know who you're talking about.
Okay, why is he telling you to take a pill and what is this condom he's talking about?
I reached out for the bedside drawer and she ran to try to stop me. With my masculine strength, I pulled the drawer and there it was. A condom in an unwrapped package.
I looked at her in utter shock. Rage and pain filling up my eyes.
HARRIET, ARE YOU...ARE YOU.... ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME?
No baby... you have it all wrong. It belongs to Sheila, my bestie. She and the guy spent the night here,
she explained in a shaky voice.
DON'T LIE TO ME! DO YOU THINK I’M A FOOL TO BELIEVE THAT???
I retorted.
WHY IS HE TEXTING YOU THEN???
She was quiet.
I got up in a huff and as I was leaving, she ran towards me while wrapped up in her towel. Seeing her beautiful curves conspicuously enjoying the towel fabric reminded me of the lustful acts we had engaged in but the thought of another man feeling the frames of her contours turned the lust
