I Am Woman - Ember Gray
Awakening
I lay in bed and ask for a miracle.
My heart aches as I'm left rotting inside.
I ask to be healed;
to finally move on past the hurt and devastation.
––––––––
I begin to float.
Very slowly, I become weightless.
I am two feet above my bed,
yet I feel completely calm.
––––––––
As I float, I notice a white smoke.
It encircles me with warmth and light.
It drifts along my skin, waves of heat as it does.
––––––––
Finally it reaches my chest,
I lose my breath as it seeps into me.
My limbs become icy static as the smoke begins to surface,
my heart in its tangle.
I watch with mild panic
as my heart now floats another two feet above me.
––––––––
The hole in my chest sinks deep,
an empty chasm
as anticipation begins to effervesce.
––––––––
But I barely take notice.
I’m too entranced watching my heart disappear
as it’s enveloped in the white smoke.
––––––––
I watch in awe as dark,
jagged stone begins to chip and fall away.
––––––––
As it does,
a brilliant beam of white light breaks through.
Even stranger,
as pieces break away,
I feel parts of my body twitch and shake,
as if directly affected by my heart healing.
––––––––
As more dazzling white light appears,
my body becomes less cold, less numb.
My heart is still in a cloud of white,
but I watch as two tendrils of smoke
extend outward
and begin grazing the rest of my body again.
It slowly slinks around my waist, my thighs,
all the way to my feet.
Pure elation is left in its path.
––––––––
All at once
as the last chip falls,
my body begins to glow.
––––––––
The smoke delicately sets my heart back into my chest,
hovering around the cavity
until the skin heals over like new.
Soft pink light emits from my entire being
as I gently drift back to my bed.
