I hope you enjoy the story ...

THIS STORY WAS ORIGINALLY published as An Affair with An Angel. After revising it considerably as a more intense paranormal romance I retitled it: Flames of Love: An Eternal Love Affair.

    Preface

WHEN THE DESIRE TO write this book was birthed, it was to provide a form of entertainment for readers and to ask the questions:

What if Lucifer could be redeemed?

Several Christians, shocked, said, It’s impossible. Nevertheless Yeshu’a said, What is impossible with man, is possible with Adonai. So...

    What would it take....?

The answer to this query is the fictional piece before you now. As you read or listen to the story, consider this scripture:

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. — 1 John 4:7

To my readers— this is not scripture though I’ve referenced scripture. I do not profess divine inspiration; it’s possible. Rather the novel is a fictional story and neither, you as a reader, or I as the author must have theological agreement. Indeed, some Christians believe it is the work of the devil.

The work does presume certain doctrinal beliefs but this novel is not meant to be an account of biblical truth. It is merely an exploratory look into a possibility and imagines, What if?

Mythology is utilized in some portions of the book. The rationale here is that ancient or modern mythological creatures and gods have their basis in some level of fact or are the result of the actions of fallen angels.

When possible, I have tried to be consistent with the teaching of scripture and biblical scholars commentaries. However, I have used my intelligence and imagination to tell a story that might not only spur further interest in the Word of God but also, create an entertaining tale.

    Chapter 1

Archangel, Michael, in disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not condemn him but said, The Lord rebuke you!—Jude 1:9.

I AM ARCHANGEL MICHAEL. As I stand before the trainees in boots, cuirass, gauntlets, greaves, plumed helmet in hand and an Akaviri katana, a single-edged slightly curved and extremely sharp blade, I carry no shield. Aware of how imposing I am in my armor, though it was merely for show, it was important they understand the war was a battle of the mind and spirit, because all celestials are spirits. Nevertheless, there are times when a Sword of Heaven can be very useful, and I’ve had to employ mine more than once.

A warrior and guardian at Heaven’s gates, I need to look the part, keep my expression stern, body strong, I stand always with a firm stance, knowing my ice-blue eyes can intimidate. I personify a warrior yet try not to let it go to my head, as some. Sent to train angels, who are often seen as spirits of love alone, my goal was to vanquish that ancient fairytale. The angels of Heaven’s army needed to be prepared for anything that could attack the mind and spirit.

Some of these angels have seen me with flaming spirit sword held aloft, my enemy’s face distorted with fear as I stood over him. An intruder who’d dared to enter Heaven uninvited. I watched as he fell into the In-Between, eyes rolling wildly. The In-Between is a great emptiness where not only one is parted from Adonai and no longer feels the Lord’s presence, but they cannot sense anyone. No one wants to fall in the In-Between; it’s a lonely place.

I am surrounded by eager trainees, angels with bright eyes and open minds, and they listen intently to my every word, sponges soaking up the knowledge I impart. As beings created before the universe itself, they have a unique insight into the ways of an infinite God that man’s finite mind cannot comprehend. I share with them the wisdom shown in His infinite love and grace. Adonai once said to Job Where were you when the morning stars sang together and the sons of God shouted for joy?

The memory brings a smile to my lips as I look out at my trainees, knowing that one day, they too will join in the chorus of celestial voices.

Adonai’s purpose in creation was not to reveal His power, glory, and invisible attributes I instruct, nor is it your purpose as warriors. His was to fill His creation, to have His humans fill His creation. Your purpose as warriors is to look out for the humans. If even one of us, commanded to honor them, refused, imagine what would happen?

As I look about and sees horror on a few faces, there’s amusement on some, those who cannot conceive of the trouble it could cause and I wonder, are those Lucifer’s followers? Then I have my answer, seeing a familiar face in the crowd of angels, a cherub.

Sitting and listening, unable to still his tongue any longer, Lucifer spoke, his tone sarcastic. You dwell on the good of Adonai and ignore all else. Come now, Michael. Be honest. He sat with arms crossed, a smug look on his face, which I’d like to slap off. Did not the prophet Isaiah say, speaking of Adonai: ‘I formed the light and created darkness: I make peace, and I create evil?

Lucifer could not know at a later time, he would be blamed for creating evil, not that it would have stilled his tongue. I calmed myself, knowing Adonai would not be pleased with my hostile attitude toward Lucifer. Besides it would do not good, just further his excuse for rebelling.

I gazed upon Lucifer and heaved sigh. "I am not discussing that subject, Lucifer. Rather, Adonai’s purpose in creation; it was not to reveal His power, glory, and attributes, but to fill His creation, which is the purpose of His humans.

Adonai created them, male and female. Blessing them He said, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, replenish the earth, and subdue it.’ So, they have and, one day, other parts of creation, also the outer planets.

Lucifer snorts and a wide grin curves his lips as doubtless seeing the anger in my eyes. He’s very perceptive and knows exactly what to do and say to cause my fury to rise, but I strive to remain calm and say, Do you have a comment? Actually, what I’d like to do is send him into the Aether for a space.

Lucifer’s lip curls up on one corner, and I’m ready to – I don’t know what to do because the Father has condoned his nonsense, so far. If not, please contain your negative energy else the Lord rebuke you. All I can do is turn back to my trainees, and set a good example for how to handle celestials like Lucifer. Yet, I know it won’t be the last I hear from Lucifer.

I feel the weight of my words heavy in the air, like a thick fog that refused to dissipate, and see the trainees discomfort. So, I continue my discourse. The thought of going against the Father's plans for the universe is inconceivable, to most of us. And even the slightest hint of disobedience could wreak havoc on all creation.

Silently, Lucifer rose from his seat, his movements fluid and graceful like a predator stalking its prey. As he walked out, his dark wings brushed against the walls, leaving behind a trail of shadows. Sadly he paid no attention to my final words, doubtless he was consumed by thoughts of rebellion.

Pride gets between us and Adonai, I said to continue. And without humility, we shut Him out of our lives. So, as you go about your work, avoid pride. Acknowledge what you do. Just don’t let it go to your head.

I knew some would heed the lesson and one who would not. I also notice the angel, Miriam had attended and, startled at Lucifer’s outburst, she had left, shaking her head in disappointment.

To Gabriel I remark, I cannot wrap my head around the idea of her attraction to a rebel, such as Lucifer when I would give anything to have her by my side. However, unlike Lucifer, I would not give up Heaven to have my way. My lips turn down in sorrow, knowing my one-time friend was in for heartbreak.

I fear that may be his end. Gabriel nods in agreement, lips turned down, also sadness in his eyes.

Moments later, I turn toward Ariel who’s just arriving, walk over and asks, Is there some reason you’re here instead of where you should be? Frowning at the lesser celestial. I do not recall sending for you.

Ariel waits a heartbeat before answering, as she gazes at me and seems to shrug it off my hostility toward her which confuses me. But my musings are shortstopped when she says, The Lord requested you to attend Him.

Eyebrows raised in surprise, lips pursed, I asks, my tone condescending, Why did He send you, and not call me Himself? Shocked to feel hurt rise up within and almost a sense of betrayal, I finds himself angry at Ariel and remind myself to put aside my pride. It’s not her fault Adonai sent her.

I shake my head to dispel the unwelcome emotions coursing through me as I leave for the throne room and Adonai. The Lord's countenance shines with an ethereal light as He addresses me, His commanding voice gentle, but still rumbling with power.

Michael, Adonai begins, His gaze piercing through my defenses. There is a disturbance in the Aether that requires your attention. I straighten, all previous feelings of resentment fading as I focus on the gravity of the situation at hand.

What kind of disturbance, my Lord? I inquire, my thoughts racing as I prepare myself for whatever task Adonai deems necessary. The Lord's expression remains inscrutable for a moment before speaking again, His words heavy with ominous portent.

Lucifer has sown seeds of discord among the celestial host, Adonai intones, His eyes darkening with concern. A chill runs down my spine as I process the weight of His words. Lucifer, once a beloved brother, now a dangerous threat. I clench my fists and tighten my jaw with determination.

I shall confront him at once, my Lord, I declare, my voice unwavering despite the turmoil brewing inside me. Adonai nods in approval, but there is a glimmer of sorrow in His eyes.

Be cautious, Michael, He cautions, His voice resonating with timeless knowledge. Lucifer's arrogance knows no bounds, and his deceitfulness is unmatched. Do not underestimate him.

With a nod of understanding, I bow respectfully before leaving the throne room. As I stride through the celestial corridors, my mind races with thoughts of how to approach Lucifer and quell the growing unrest in the heavens - now in the Aether as well, it seems.

Arriving at the grand chamber where Lucifer often lingers, I find him gazing at the stars while playing his lyre, timbrels and pipes, creating a haunting melody that seems to echo the tumultuous emotions within him. I watch and listen from the doorway, feeling a mix of nostalgia and sadness tugging at my heart. Once, we had been brothers in arms, united in our devotion to Adonai. But now, Lucifer's fall from grace seems almost inevitable, his pride blinding him to the consequences of his actions.

I clear my throat before confidently striding into the chamber, my wings casting a commanding shadow over the room. Lucifer turns to face me, his own iridescent wings flickering rainbows of light, but his expression revealing nothing of the turmoil within him.

Michael, he drawls with disdain. To what do I owe the displeasure of your company today?

I brace myself, steeling my resolve against his barbs. We need to talk, brother, I say, each word heavy with unspoken regret.

A bitter laugh escapes Lucifer's lips as he sets aside his thoughts of the stars and regards me with a smirk that does not reach his eyes. Talk? How novel, he quips, his tone laced with mockery. Pray tell, what business does the great Archangel Michael have with one such as I?

My jaw tightens at his veiled insult, but I hold my composure. You know why I'm here, Lucifer, I reply evenly, though my eyes betray a flicker of sadness. Your actions have not gone unnoticed.

Lucifer’s face hardens, a glint of defiance flashing within his usually composed demeanor. Ah, so Adonai has finally deemed me worthy of your attention, He sneers, words dripping with venom. Tell me, Michael, are you here to deliver His judgment or merely to exchange pleasantries?

A flicker of pain stabbed my heart at Lucifer's caustic words, a pang of sorrow for the brother I once knew so well, or thought I did. I am here to appeal to reason, however, should you not heed Adonai’s warning, then, yes, judgment shall come upon you.

    Chapter 2

Do not think his appearance is why I rejected him. The lord sees not as you - on the outward appearance; He looks on the heart," —1Samuel 16:1

MY THOUGHTS TURBULENT, I rage. What foolishness he preaches, I seethe. I am Lucifer, first created, and I brought light into this universe. It should be mine." My bare feet pace the fiery stones of Andromeda, each step radiating anger and frustration. The stars around seem to mirror my emotions, swirling and flickering in a chaotic dance. In my fury, I can do nothing but rant and rave, causing those nearby to cower in fear. But as I notice their reactions, I realize this display will not serve my purposes at the moment. Taking a deep breath, I look up at the sparkling sky and feel a sense of calm wash over me. The stars twinkle like distant diamonds, their soothing glow bringing a sense of peace to my troubled mind.

The angels nearby now are more relaxed as I continue my speech. You cannot imagine what it was like then. I spread my arms to express creation’s grandeur, and see them lean in eagerly, their faces filled with wonder.

What I saw was chaos, darkness and light colliding as the universe burst into being. It was... exhilarating. Then memories of the moment when I’d seen the violent power, an explosion of light. My breath grows short, heart thuds heavy in my chest. I break out in a cold sweat. Never had I imagined such an astonishing display; it was the most violent yet magnificent display. And it terrified me because I could not comprehend what my eyes beheld.

Gas clouds collided, in a thunder of power. I shudder, recalling the terror I’d experienced. and shake my head as the panic visits me again. But... now it is under my control. I heave a sigh of relief knowing that time has passed and I have grown confident in my own abilities. I have no need to fear.

Then, I see an angel of such incredible beauty, and what I thought I had before vanished before the power she held over me. I was instantly helpless in the presence of such beauty, not just her body but her spirit.

MY NAME IS MIRIAM AND I couldn't help but stare as the cherub stretched his massive wings they seem to reach across the vast universe. I mean, come on, he's anything but cute like humans portray cherubs! Then I suddenly sensed fear in him, which I found confusing. You see, Lucifer was created first and we all watched as Adonai created the entire universe. Centuries go by and I can't get over how adorable he is, even after all this time. Then he starts talking about Adonai, taking over the heavens, and my heart skips a beat and I want to shout. Do you realize who you're talking about? I remain silent, seeing Lucifer is rebelling because he thinks he should be able to create too. Typical artist mentality, I muse. Then he looks at me with those piercing green eyes and I freeze, my heart racing and butterflies storm my stomach.

AS I LOOKED AT HER, it was clear she wasn't your average angel. With her shining hair that seemed to have been styled by the seraphs themselves and wings whiter than my new sheets, I couldn't help but gawk. Did she use diamond dust for her sparkling skin? And why was she hiding behind a potted plant, pretending to read a book?

I reminded myself that she was a warrior of Adonai and discarded any thoughts of using her for my own pleasures. My attention shifted to Andras, who could easily grace the cover of a Fitness Magazine with his chiseled abs. But that wasn't important right now; I needed information. I had to snap my fingers a few times to get his attention, startling him like a frightened deer. Who’s that angel there in the back? Is she here to spy on us or join our cause? I asked then wondered at the expression on his face as his eyes took her in. Then, I recall, he recently have an awkward encounter with an angel. When she told him to get his hands off he got all huffy. This had to be the one, and now I’m even more curious. Never mind, I say, his forward movement stopped like I’d cut off his legs. I’ll take care of her. I know what he thought I meant, but I’m not an idiot like Andras.

As I approached the mystery angel, I overheard someone saying to her I might become the next ruler of the universe. She didn't seem too impressed though, which only made me more intrigued. Instead of asking about her thoughts, I decided to play it cool and ask what's not likely?

When I saw her face and those electric blue eyes, all the words I’d imagined speaking vanished like morning mist. Her blue eyes like lasers bored into mine and her lips...well let's say they could give those silicone movie stars a run for their money. She was yummy and I could gobble her up in a heartbeat.

I came to hear you speak, she said with a hint of amusement in her voice. Your words were quite controversial. I couldn't tell if she was flirting with me or challenging me, but either way, I was completely smitten. Move over, Angelina, there's a new angel in town.

Well, aren't you forward? I look down at her breasts and chuckle while she looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. My eyes scanned all of the angel, taking in her stunning beauty. Her figure was perfect, curving in all the right places. Her full firm breasts, slim waist, and shapely hips were complemented by long, legs that seemed to go on forever.

The thought of having those legs wrapped around me as we indulged in our carnal desires caused a moment of distraction before I returned to reality. You came to see my adorable self, did you? I said with a smirk wondering, what am I doing? It’s like Andras all over again.

Andras said her name was Miriam and she’s a warrior, except there’s nothing threatening about her. She stands tall and sure, though nervous. I wonder if she
