I saw Samora scream as the gun went off and she pulled my gun from the holster at my hip. The bullet that ripped through my back, scraping along my ribs and out my chest didn't hurt more than a bee-sting, but I realized as soon as it left my body that I was not going to live.
This was no bullet from a human hand, it was demonic and therefore had the power to wound me, to kill. My body weakened, I felt like it was falling asleep piece-by-piece and I was having trouble breathing. I slumped to the ground, hitting it with my back. I didn't even have the energy to look down at my wound, but it must have been bad, because after Samora's gun went off several times, she starting screaming my name.
Gideon, Gideon, please, please be all right,
she sobbed, but her voice got more and more quiet as the world around me faded.
