Kathryn Lyons

Hello, I am Kathryn Lyons and I am a disabled writer. I was born with a genetic defect and mutated genetics and it caused me many complications throughout my life. This caused my bones to twist in my legs at puberty. I grew very tall, around six foot eight, and then I had surgery which dropped my height to six foot four. I have always had issues with my condition since I was young and the hospital was like a second home for me. I never got a proper education so I had to teach myself a lot of street smarts and one of those skills were reading and writing. I found I had a real passion for writing stories and I started writing my first book at the age of fourteen. Life has always been really challenging. It’s almost like a never ending obstacle course, and I think my hardest thing I had to learn was letting others help me to get back up so that I could keep going. Life was never meant to be easy but we have to be ready for whatever comes around the corner and tackle it head on! I had doctors telling me I was dying and then, I started to really live again. I started my own charity called Accessibili-t alongside my mother. What drove me to start it was back in 2016 when my mother said to me, “You are not dead yet, what do you want to do?” I turned to her and said, “I want to become the face of change.” From there, I became a globally international public speaker, product inventor, humanitarian and entrepreneur, and even a model. I don’t have a degree but I learnt it all through street smarts. Don’t let anything stop you from living or following your dreams, if you have something you really want to do then just do it. Go for it ’cause you never know unless you try. I love writing and I love the life I am living. It has had a lot of challenges but it’s helped me create and become the person I am today. And through this, I have been able to come up with and write some amazing stories, including Rosemary Academy.

    Chapter One

Heavy rain poured down onto the streets paths; the roads were slippery. The trees were blowing as the rain poured. It just kept causing me to get soaked.

By the time I arrived at Rosemary Academy, my uniform was drenched. The uniform’s blood-coloured rose looked darker after the rain. I tried wringing the water from my soaked white skirt. As I entered the academy, a woman of high standards was standing in front of me.

Her hands were folded on top of her breasts. As she slowly moved them to her sides, her hair was red like the school’s rose. She had dark blue eyes and she just stared down on me.

I felt a bit intimidated but had to speak up. She couldn’t be the school principal, could she? I heard from the locals that went to this school that she would hardly show her face unless there was an emergency.

Good morning, Miss Silvia Arianrhod Arawn.

I looked up, meeting her eyes and nodded. Good morning, Miss.

I stood quiet seeing her smile as she spoke in a soft voice. Please, Miss Silvia, everyone in school calls me Miss Snotra. I am your school’s principal. Please follow me; I will have someone deliver your luggage to your room.

I went along after looking back at my luggage as I quickly caught up to her. The hall was elaborate; the floors were made of marble, the walls were silver with a gold lining, and they had elaborate paintings up around each wall.

The ceiling had intricately painted angels above, letting the hall seem brighter than everywhere else.

We passed a few doors and came to some stairs. She went up them slowly, sliding her hand on the hand rail as I followed behind her. I thought my strength could hold me up but I felt like we had been walking for hours.

We stopped in front of a picture of a woman crying. She seemed down in despair as I heard Snotra speak, Ich verzeihe Ihnen. The picture looked up as it smiled, opening its door and we both stepped in through the door.

Miss Snotra, what did you just say? She looked back as she smiled sweetly.

It was the password to get into this room. It’s German for I forgive you.

I smiled softly as she went quiet, feeling warm and happy inside. I already felt like I was at home, my new home. This place wasn’t as scary as the locals had said. I couldn’t understand why or what they said.

Miss Snotra pointed to a room as she walked inside.

"This will be your room. You have a computer to stay in contact with the outside world. You have a bed, a wardrobe, a bathroom, and a mirror inside of your wardrobe. Meals are served from six am, classes start at nine am till about three pm.

Your next meal for lunch is about twelve noon and then dinner about seven pm, and curfew is around ten pm. You will be in class room 142; your classroom teacher will be Mr Rupert, he teaches and majors in science.

As she was about to continue, the school bell rang, ending classes for the day.

Well, Miss Silvia, please come see me if you have any trouble.

I smiled and nodded in thanks. Thank you, Miss Snotra, I will. She smiled and quickly headed out the door closing it.

I saw another bed on the other side of the room. It must be my roommate, I thought to myself.

I opened my suitcase and got out my clothes, smoothing them out, placing them slowly away on my side of the wardrobe.

Both sides had mirrors. There was only one bathroom though, but I wasn’t bothered too much by it.

The door opened as I realised my uniform was still soaking wet. I went to the bathroom shutting the door and I slowly started to take off the uniform slowly, peeling off the school’s vest. I looked at the signified rose trapped around the vines.

I placed down the vest on the bathroom counter and as I started to undo my blouse buttons, a knock came from the door. I heard a soft voice.

Excuse me, are you Silvia Arianrhod Arawn? The girl asked me in a puzzled tone.

Yes, I am she, who might you be? I asked in a relaxed manner as I continued taking off my soaked uniform.

I’m Zoey Druantia Finncaev, it’s nice to meet you even though you’re in the shower.

I peeled off my skirt. As it fell to the floor, I felt a small smile come across my face when I bent down picking up my uniform.

Sorry, I was rushing to get here and got drenched from the rain. It was pouring outside earlier.

I quickly got in the shower and tempted the water.

Do you have any coat hangers that you can dry your uniform with? Zoey asked contently.

I yelled out to make sure she could hear me as I started to wash my hair with the products that were already in the shower.

No, I have to buy some. Do you know where I can get them?

Zoey was in her wardrobe as she looked through her clothes trying to pick out what to wear.

It’s okay, the school provides us with what we need of essentials. We are not allowed out of the school grounds unless we are supervised by a teacher or have a student pass.

I slowly finished my shower. I stepped out grabbing a blood red towel, slowly drying my hair and the other white towel drying my body and I wrapped them around my body and hair. I stepped out of the bathroom seeing Zoey for the first time.

Her hair was short and black. She had purple eyes; she had some freckles and her skin was as pale as mine. She was slightly taller than me though, but I was happy to know I have a good roommate.

She stood up and I saw her in a blue laced shirt with some black jeans on. Her shoes were black slip-ons and she had a blue clip in her hair holding her hair back from her eyes.

You’re shorter than I pictured, Silvia. She giggled quietly as I just shrugged my shoulders.

You’re only as tall as you feel. Zoey smiled and agreed as she
