Molly Ribbons - Sofia C. Lavin

    Prologue

A young elf named Molly lived in a quaint little village nestled deep within the snowy North. For as long as she could remember, Molly had worked diligently in Santa's workshop, crafting toys and spreading joy to children all over the world. But Molly had a secret, a deep-rooted concern that gnawed at her heart like a persistent winter chill. She couldn't ignore the growing signs of environmental crisis any longer—the melting ice caps, the disappearing species, and the erratic weather patterns. Molly was convinced it was time to make a change.

She approached Santa, her eyes filled with determination, and spoke earnestly of her fears. Santa, our planet is in trouble, just like the children who depend on us. We must protect their future by caring for the Earth.

But Santa, his laughter as hearty as ever, replied, My dear Molly, Christmas is about dreams and wishes, not problems. Children need joy and presents, not worries about the world.

With a heavy heart, Molly realized that Santa was living in a dreamland, far removed from the reality of our changing planet. She decided it was time to leave the comfort of the workshop and embark on a journey to make a difference, even if it meant conquering her fear of heights.

Desperation fueled Molly's determination. She returned to Santa one last time, her plea echoing in the chilly workshop. Santa, please consider my offer. I want to be your pilot, to help you navigate the dangers caused by global warming. Together, we can still bring joy to children while also protecting the planet.

Santa looked at Molly, his twinkling eyes softening. He sighed, realizing the gravity of her words. Molly, your heart is as big as the North Star. If you truly believe this is the path, then go, my dear. Be the pilot the world needs.

With Santa's reluctant blessing, Molly set out on her quest, her dream of becoming Santa's pilot now intertwined with her mission to save the world, one flight at a time.

Friend, where do you live?   Do you get to see new places and people or are you in a small town like I am?

Close your eyes and imagine living in the same neighborhood for the rest of your life. What would you change if you could change anything?  All I want to do is fly away from here.  But I was stuck.  All we do is stand still.  There is nothing to look forward to in this same spot anymore.  And even the places that we used to visit for work were changing and not in a good way.

Cities that used to be lively with wildlife have grown quiet and desolate, especially during the great pandemic of 2020.  Boy that was rough for a few years.  People stopped traveling for fear of becoming sick with something called a virus.  But one of the good sides during this time, if possible, is that many people stopped driving their gas-guzzling transport vehicles to work.  The air quality got a little better, wildlife started to reclaim natural habitats that were once overrun by humans, and the fragile state of the world and all lifeforms was being enthusiastically supported.

At my job, it was more of the same.  The same policies and procedures.  We had to follow the same standards for each
