Small is beautiful

I’M A BIG FAN OF SHORT OUTINGS. Sometimes, a window cracks open in a busy life, the weather gods smile down kindly, and you can sneak out for a quick fix of the outdoors. The prize is all the sweeter for being snatched. I’ve heard people use the term ‘micro-adventure’ for a weekend, but my theme is smaller still, and so I’ll coin the term ‘nano-adventure’ forthwith. Maybe it will catch on, maybe it won’t. Either way, the long daylight hours and kinder weather of the warmer months offer plenty of possibility for nano-adventures.

During the coronavirus pandemic, I worked almost exclusively from home, only putting in the occasional physical appearance at work. But, one week in high summer, a project required me to go in for two days running. Cogs in my mind started to whirr. I’m extremely fortunate – whilst I might have to show my face at work, that workplace is in Cumbria.
