Chapter 1: How Windows 11 is Different

Computers are playing a more central role in our lives now and Windows 11 is created to let you do the things you love to do.  On October 5, 2021, Windows 11 was released.  Many people have been excited to try this new operated system.  Fortunately, every computer running a legal copy of Windows 10 will be able to download Windows 11 without charge.  Windows continues its innovation in this new version and continues to be the central part of global business and personal entertainment.  For many people, Windows is the place where you played your first computer game or wrote your first email.  It is a platform used by more than a billion people today.  Connect, create, learn and play in new ways.  Windows 11 was designed for ease of use, creativity and productivity.

Computers are getting more connected with our lives and Windows 11 was created to give a platform for innovation.  Many people rely on Windows for daily tasks.  Computers have advanced and gotten better.  They have become smaller and lighter.  They can process information faster.  Windows has improved again.  The first version of Microsoft Windows was created in 1985.  There have been many versions of Windows over the years. 

Windows 3 was released in 1990 and it was the first version that needed a hard disk.  It received mainstream popularity and was a rival to the Commodore Amiga and Apple’s Macintosh.  It allowed for multitasking and was able to execute MS-DOS programs.

In 2001 Windows XP was released.  It was one of the greatest versions of windows and it combined Microsoft’s business and consumer operating system into one.  It provided user-friendly functionality and the taskbar and Start menu were renovated. 

In 2007 Windows Vista was released. Vista changed the way Windows looked and felt and it had a bigger emphasis on things such as security. Windows 8 was released in 2012 and it provided for touch-friendly use.  Program lists and icons were replaced with live tiles.  It also had a desktop similar to windows 7.  Windows 8 was quicker than earlier versions of Windows. 

Windows 11 has improved and advanced too and  it has made it easier for you to play, create, study and interact in new ways.  A major difference is the taskbar and start menu which are now centered.  If you want, you can align the taskbar to the left if that is your preference.  Widgets make a return to Windows 11, letting you add widgets for news, weather, stocks, etc.  File Explorer has been redesigned with
