Moonlit Promises at Pemberley - Carin Grace

    Chapter 1

It was a fine autumn afternoon when Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, having returned from his ride across the undulating hills of Pemberley, sought out his beloved wife with a countenance betraying a secret pleasure. Lizzy, who had been occupied in the library with a volume of poetry to improve her mind, looked up as he entered, her eyes brightening at the sight of him.

The air carried the crisp scent of fallen leaves, and the warm hues of autumn danced through the open windows of the library. The faint crackling of the fireplace added a comforting backdrop as Darcy, with a subtle rustle of his riding attire, crossed the room.

Dearest Lizzy, said he, advancing towards her with an elegant letter in hand, a correspondence has arrived which I believe shall interest you greatly.

Lizzy, setting aside her book with alacrity, regarded the letter with curiosity, and an arch smile graced her lips. From whom does it come, and what news does it bring that brings such a gleam to your eye?

Read for yourself, my dear, replied Darcy, handing her the letter with a flourish. The familiar script of Mr. Bingley’s hand was instantly recognizable.

As Lizzy perused the contents of Mr. Bingley’s missive, a delighted laugh escaped her. The crackling fire and the soft shuffle of pages filled the room. Oh, Fitzwilliam! They mean to visit, and with their new babe no less! Her eyes sparkled with the affectionate warmth she felt for her sister Jane and her good-hearted husband.

Indeed, said Darcy, a rare chuckle rumbling in his throat. The fireplace’s warmth cast a cozy glow, enhancing the rich colors of the room. Bingley writes that they are most anxious to introduce us to the newest addition to their family. It seems we are to expect them within the fortnight.

As the leaves outside rustled gently, Lizzy’s mind was already anticipating the arrival of their dear friends and all the preparations needed to welcome them to Pemberley, where autumn had begun to settle in.

As the sun descended below the horizon, bathing the dinner table
