    Simple tenses

    Present Simple

    Form:

    +: V1

    -: do/does+not+V1

     ?: do/does+V1

    Example sentences: 

    + I like apple. 

    -  I don't like apple.

    ? Do I like apple?

    Yes, I do. or No, I don't.

    ? What do I like?

    + Peter eats meat.

    - Peter doesn't eat meat.

    ? Does Peter eat meat?

    Yes, he does.

    No, he doesn't.

    ? What does Pete eat?

    Use:

    When we talk about a person or thing: Jessica loves surfing.

    To express regular or repeated actions: Every morning he goes fishing.

    To tell about our habits: After lunch I always have a coffee.

    Laws of nature: Water boils on 100 Celsius.

    Timetables: The next train to Budapest leaves at 5:15pm.

    Some useful tips:

    In positive sentences the verb gets -S or -ES suffix if it is in third person singular.

    In negative sentences after does, the -S or -ES suffix is omitted.

    We use do/does only in negative sentences and in questions.
