    To my readers

    CHAPTER ONE

    Where’s Susan? Martin asked.

Rolando swallowed, feeling intimidated by his alpha client. Martin and his wife, Susan, had been working through issues, and Rolando was their counselor.

Susan loved her husband, but Martin had a temper. She had been doing everything she could to stick it out, but Rolando knew for a fact that Susan wasn’t coming to the session. She sent a detailed email in the morning that she was skipping town because Martin had exploded during a retreat the previous weekend.

Martin’s jaw flexed as he stared at Rolando, who was averting his eyes, wishing he had just canceled the appointment. Rolando flinched when Martin stepped forward. A low growl left the alpha’s mouth, as though he were a hungry animal in the wild.

I asked you a question, Rolando. Martin spoke in a low tone.

Rolando swallowed a breath. He could feel the words of Susan’s escape at the tip of his tongue but knew it’d be a mistake to say the words. He knew it wouldn’t do anything but make the irate Martin even angrier.

I don’t know, Rolando said without lifting his eyes.

Martin growled and took another step forward, making Rolando flinch. You’re lying, omega! Tell me the truth! Now!

I don’t know where Susan is, Rolando said in a gasp. I swear.

Omega! You know something you’re not telling me!

Rolando hated being alone in his office with Martin, but he’d trained for this. He steadied himself. Martin, why don’t you sit down so we can talk about this?

Martin growled but relented. He took a seat and let out a huff, crossing his arms over his chest. You know, I always hated coming to you. I told Susan over and over that we should find an alpha counselor. All you omegas stick together, Martin said in a nasty voice, like he had a mouth full of spit.

Has that been your experience? Do you feel that I take Susan’s side when you two are here together?

Martin stared into Rolando’s eyes a long moment. No, but it doesn’t matter. Omegas are subservient to alphas. Shouldn’t you already have a baby in you? Shouldn’t you be at home cooking instead of in this office working? I’m so angry Susan doesn’t want more than two.

Rolando was twenty-five going on twenty-six. He still had plenty of time left, but all the alphas who’d entered his life weren’t the ones. The connection was never right. Rolando didn’t want to just let any alpha knot him because of the ticking clock he felt within himself, but Rolando definitely wanted a family.

He also didn’t have the heart to tell Martin how Susan had mentioned in
