Chapter One

Aran loved Halloween. The holiday was the one time of the year he could be himself. Well, not all the time, but costume parties were the best. Even Halloween night, when giving out candy, he was able to let his hair down and not have to hide behind the mask, literally. He shook his head in dismay at his lame humor.

Tonight was a party at a house just down the street. He'd been passing acquaintances with the couple since they'd moved in. Talking about the state of their lawns, local politics, dog owners who let their dogs take a dump anywhere they felt like it, the usual neighborly things. But they hadn't exactly been besties, no drinks or dinner invitations, until the Halloween party invite arrived. He'd very nearly done a happy dance right there in his front hallway when he'd found the envelope in his mailbox. He was very much looking forward to a little fun and relaxing.

Standing naked in the middle of his bedroom after his shower, his legs slightly spread, he lifted his arms over his head, took a deep breath and concentrated. As he let the breath out, the warmth spread though him, from the tips of his fingers to his toes. It was the sensation of someone wrapping him in a warm blanket.
