Preface

This is the third book dealing with the world of the Vane Isles with the Knotted Cord introducing us to the existence of that world and to some of it issues. Initially Mite Mannies, who found his way into this world and subsequently was able to complete the prophecy of old while he charged his knotted cord. This cord which gave him the ability to destroy the evil king who had been threatening the peace of that world, but not long after those events, they found that this had not completely remove all the evil from this world. Next in the Fuller Jewel we found that an innocent looking jewel owned by Ann Trown who was a friend of Mite’s was more than likely a jewel that had been stolen years ago from another kingdom within this world. Ann’s adventures in resolving the story of its theft and ultimately her ability to access the jewels power and make use of it. Leading to her discovering that this innocent jewel has given her incredible abilities and powers, which Ann then found were a dangerous thing to have. Finally, Ann found out who was initially responsible for stealing the jewel all those years ago and eventually she was able to restore the stolen power to its rightful owners. All the while ensuring that everyone understood that this type of power was not the only thing and she showed them that love and compassion also contained power when it was used properly. Now those from the world that Mite and Ann had originally came from, who used to try and dominate them, have found their way into the world of the Vane Isles and there they sought to reassert their presumed dominance. But do they have the power to defeat all those who have now found that they have their own powers and do not wish to be dominated and might they have enough power to stand for what is right and good, no matter what world you came from. The defense of this world against evil in all its forms has begun and will their combined might be enough to protect this world and win out?

Woe to the world and them that dwell therein! For the sword and their destruction drawled nigh, and one people shall stand up and fight against another, and swords in their hands. For there shall be sedition among men, and invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power. A New arrival

The cry of a baby was finally heard after many other cries of pain, and that sound was like music to the ears of Milan and Bree, for it wasn’t an easy birth for Bree but being young she had been able to endure. Milan exclaimed Bree it’s a boy! and they had both agreed before when they were discussing possible names and for a boy, they had chosen Natho s after Milan’s birth father. Tears were seen in the eyes of both Milan and Bree because the baby appeared to be healthy and whole, but also because of the thought that those grandparents who would never get to see this child. Bree was covered with perspiration but it could not conceal her beauty but actually enhanced it. With her long light brown hair sticking to her face and her brown eyes that were filled with love. Milan could not believe his luck at having this beautiful woman actually being his wife and now the mother of his child. Milan stood there with love twinkling in his light brown eyes, amazed that they were now parents. Milan was amazed that both mother and child were doing so well because in this world they didn’t have hospitals or doctors like where he had grown up. Here there were only mid-wives and also a wizard who was standing by should anything unusual arise that would need their intervention or assistance. The baby was washed weighed and wrapped in a clean blanket and he was placed into Bree’s arms and she marveled at his perfect little face as Milan bent and hugged them both. The baby had just the hint of a little fuzz on his head and he appeared to be whole and healthy in every other way that Milan could tell.

It was later when both the mother and baby were resting in their suite when their well-wishers began to arrive to see them. First to come and see them were Milan’s adopted parents Joan and Martin Mannies who had been staying in Hold for the past two weeks in anticipation of this birth. Normally they lived in another world that could be reached by using the Orthlon or passage between two worlds that had been created many years ago by the wizard Tamar. He initially used the Orthlon to rescue Milan when evil intruders had killed his birth parents and they had been King Nathos and Queen Baylim of Vane. The intruders had used poison and they would have done the same to Milan, if they had been able to find him. Tamar secreted the child from the city and they both escaped to the other world through the passage that Tamar had only recently completed. The Mannies had then agreed to take the child that Tamar had brought to them and he asked them to raise him as their own. Now all these years later, they would get to see their child begin to raise a child of his own. They remembered that years ago when they realized that they would not be able to have any children of their own when they met Tamar and he said I may have a child that you may raise as your own. They asked him how is it that you know that we are even looking for such a thing? Tamar said you may not believe this but I have some magical abilities and I have not been spying on you, but due to an unfortunate situation, I needed to bring this young boy to your town. I further realized that I would not be able to provide a suitable home for such a child. He went on to say I can provide you with funds for which to raise him and I will not be far away if you feel that you have need of me. I know I can rely on the two of you to give him a loving home and be his family? The Mannies said we do not need your money to raise this child, for this is something we have planned for and have always dreamed about doing.

Tamar then said this is a special child and someday he may be needed to rescue a world The Mannies replied this is the only world that we know of. Tamar replied a day will come when all you think you know may indeed be changed, but do not let this boy know that you know what I have just told you. The following day Tamar brought a beautiful boy to the Mannies and he said raise him as your own but let him know that you have adopted him and love him as if he was your own which will not be difficult because he is a fine boy. From that day forward they were open, honest and loving to the boy that they called Mitias and Mite as a nickname, and he became all that Tamar had said and he grew to be a good and smart boy. And as time went by, they realized that he was indeed special in more ways than they had ever dreamed. He was never the most forward of children, but the few friends he did have were very close and luck seemed to follow him and also his friends. The secret that they had they cherished in their hearts was that they knew that Mite was always more than even he himself knew, and they always wondered what his destiny would be.

Those first few days that Milan and Bree spent bonding with their son were the best for them, even knowing that they weren’t getting a lot of sleep. Just being with the life that they had made together, brought them closer than they thought they ever would. The feel of their son in their arms and his total dependence upon them, this thrilled and scared them both at the same time. Gratefulness for both Milan’s parents and also for Bree’s parents who helped them over some of their first few trouble spots, it was their parent’s calm reassurances that the baby’s fussing and crying were indeed normal, and soon the new parents also would begin to understand what those sounds indicated. The first few nights the new parents were quite anxious as they waited to hear the cries or sounds emitted by the baby and as days went by, only those noises that were cries of needs or wants brought the parents to the baby’s crib. Bree told Milan Earlier Nat (which they had decided they would call him as a nickname) seemed to recognize me and he smiled at me when I picked him up and cuddled him. Milan and Bree thought back to the day when they first had seen their baby smile at them in recognition when either of them would walk into his room. Remembering all those smiles and then realizing that this tiny human relies upon them and loves them both unconditionally, that it took quite a while before they didn’t cry just for the joy that this child had provided to them. There were times when they thought they were overwhelmed in the night not knowing what the baby needed, even after changing him, feeding him or just holding him and still he cried. There were times when they wondered if they were doing something wrong or possibly just that they weren’t good enough parents. Those were the times when the grandparents encouraged them that everything they were doing, is what creates the bond and builds the confidence that their baby can trust them.

King Tallen and the Queen Albry told them their stories about what it was like to have two babies at the same time and also an older brother who was just two years old at the time. This made them feel better and they looked upon Bree’s parent with awe and with more love for sharing their stories with them. King Tallen said that he had been a young man nearly twenty years old when King Nathos and Queen Baylim had been killed and Queen Berda his mother, had been placed upon the throne for she was the next in line to succeed after Milan had disappeared. Tallen had just married Albry the year before and just had Tory and less than two years later the twins Briane and Mallen had been born. It was shortly after that when the King and queen had been killed making him the heir apparent to his mother and not ten years later, Queen Berda stepped down saying that she felt overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the position. Tallen had then been crowned king just before the winter season when he was just shy of his thirtieth birthday. He felt that he was a good king and the year after his coronation the evil in the west began to cause more trouble for his kingdom. Four years later Milan returned and he helped prevent the evil king and his forces from destroying his reign, by helping to resolve the prophecy of old thereby freeing the Vane Isles from the evil shadow. Now four years later King Tallen had become a grandfather and his heir apparent had just married his love who also was the owner of the Fuller jewel, making her one of the most important figures of age.

Ann of the Fuller jewel as she is now being called, had come from Ralstown in the other world as did Milan of Vane, but both of them had their roots in the world of the Vane Isles. Ann’s mother and father had met on the Fuller Isles when Ann’s mother Sarah had been known as Soril the sorceress and Thomas was then known as Tomas the brother of the current king of the Fuller Isles. Together they stole the original Fuller jewel and they made it take them away. Away in their case was to the other world where Soril had seemingly lost all her magical powers and the stolen jewel would now do nothing for them. They married in that world and they had Ann and as she grew her parents had given her the Fuller jewel as a toy, because it would do nothing for them. Many years later Ann and Mite, as Milan was known then, became close friends as part of a group of friends at their schools, this group was often picked upon by a group of bully’s and one day while Mite was running away from the bully’s, he ran into another world. As previously mentioned, Milan freed the world of the Vane Isles from an evil influence and several years later Ann was in this world when she became embroiled in the conflict surrounding her jewel. An emissary from the Fuller Isles had been visiting the Isle of Vane to discuss various trade ventures between the two kingdoms, when he saw the jewel that Ann was wearing, and he was initially convinced that it was the original Fuller jewel. Even though he was correct in his assumption, the methods that were used to reacquire the jewel were less than honest. The wizard Bartong had taken Ann and her jewel
