My family. ’Nuff said.
For real, though. My family; my rocks, my best friends. Tom, my husband, Molly, my oldest, and Samantha, my youngest—they are there for me. When it comes time to send in my manuscript, we get together and do a little hand gesture, creating magick, and we all yell Bloop bloop bloop
continuously until the email goes through! They support and love that I am an author and already are asking what the next book is going to be!
There is nothing better than feeling supported and loved through the process of writing a manuscript, no matter what the book is actually about. They get it. They all do!
My sister, Tammy Nelson, also an author and best friend, deserves a shoutout. She continually checks in and tells me, when those days come around that I feel stressed about my looming deadline, You’ve got this!
Finally, thanks to my friends! They are probably all getting sick of hearing me say, I can’t today, have to write!
But again, they are all there to raise me up when I sometimes feel like I’ll never finish.
This book is dedicated to all of them. Without the love they share with me, I don’t know that I’d be able to keep doing what I love, and man, do I love it!

THANK YOU!!!
There is no way I’d ever be able to write this book without the stories shared with me by people from every walk of life. From students to police officers to doctors to authors and everyone in between, THANK YOU! You shared your beliefs and your intuitive moments, and I can’t express my appreciation enough! There have been so many incredible conversations that began with Oh, I don’t think I’ve got anything. I don’t really use my intuition
but ended with Oh, there was this one time …
Their stories are here. Written for you and all of us who believe in the magic of intuition.
I can’t list everyone who contributed, but know that I am beyond grateful for you all! Not only have you provided the anecdotes and narratives that seem so unbelievable but are real life intuition, you have also shared true parts of your lives with me to send out to the world. Intuition, an often-doubted gift, is real. With so many extrasensory accounts, it’s impossible not to believe that our gifts, our vibes, our metaphysical messages are, in fact, accessible to everyone.
My new friends I met while sharing and celebrating our mutual wins at the COVR awards—your words of wisdom and your belief that I deserved to be there inspired me and helped me look at my work through the eyes of (other) professionals. For this, I am extremely grateful!
And I couldn’t finish this without acknowledging Llewellyn Worldwide. The publishing house that has been with me since day one! I will miss my acquisitions editor and friend, Angela Wix, but welcomed the opportunity to work with Amy Glaser again, and welcome Nicole Borneman!
Again, just acknowledging you all isn’t enough—you are all amazing and so incredibly generous to help me and all of my books succeed! Hope you enjoy Real Life Intuition!

eyeINTRODUCTION
Within the pages of this book, you will find some seemingly ordinary and many extraordinary stories of real life intuition, from real people. Sometimes their intuition surprised them, and other times they recognized it for what it was: their natural, inherent ability to tune in to the universal energy that connects us all. Whether or not they were aware of their gifts previously, you’ll likely connect to at least a few of their stories. You will also have the opportunity to practice using your own intuition through the book’s exercises.
Above all, I ask that you read this with an open mind. Allow yourself to relate to the accounts that others have been excited—and, sometimes, brave enough—to share with you!
EXERCISE Protection
Before doing any of the exercises in the book, you’ll want to protect yourself from any negativity. It’s important to note that throughout this book, I will talk about where and how the information is coming through; in all circumstances, I am talking about positive energy, never negative energy or energies. Feel free to repeat this exercise as you continue exploring your own gifts.
Get into a comfy position and just begin breathing, in and out. Inhale positive vibes, exhale nonsense and negativity you no longer need. Then, imagine a screen (like a window screen) growing all around you, made of beautiful light. This screen will allow positive messages and helpful information to come through, while keeping you safe from anything that would harm you or cause you grief in any way.
This screen can grow larger with every breath, encompassing your body, the room you are in, and even your entire home. You can also choose to extend your protective screen to your family and friends. This protection is limited only by your belief that it is protecting you and those you designate in your circle. Keep it there as long as you want, but definitely invoke this screen before every exercise you do!
Intuition: We All Have It
We begin life with a knowing that we are connected, an intuitive awareness that we are capable of so much. Then, we discover that everything we knew when we came into this world may not have been right or, more importantly, may not have been widely accepted or recognized by society as valid—until, usually years later, we begin to understand that we were on the right track, and we are connected and capable of moving into our greatness, or at the very least, our happiness. What stops us from a natural progression from birth to intuition? Simple: we do.
Unfortunately, even well-intentioned people tend to stray from relying on or even using their intuitive gifts. But intuition is our birthright. It is the one thing that can truly help us move toward joy, but we shove it down and keep it hidden because the reality is it is intangible, and intangibles are difficult to prove. So, instead, we focus on the tangibles, those things we can grasp physically or see with our own eyes; they are the things we can all agree are real. Intuition is harder to verify.
However, that intuitive ability, that gift, comes around when you need it. It is a gut instinct, a feeling deep down—a knowing, even—about something, anything that you may be connected to, that, when it happens, makes you say Aha!
or brings you comfort. We turn to our intuitive impressions when we need to decide something, when rational thought has run its course, or when we need help from someone other than those in the physical realm. We can call it prayer, or we can call it heavenly intervention, or we can call it what it is: a request sent out to the universe to help us in the best and most positive way. That is not to say that belief in a higher power is void or irrelevant. Belief in a higher power works. Because, and I don’t say this lightly, the universal energy that you may identify as God, Jesus, Buddha, Mother Mary, or any other religious deity helps us connect to our own higher self and our intuition.
Again, it’s that intuitive gift that most of us lose along the way because we’ve been told it’s not real. But it finds its way back to us in times of need, and then we can learn to develop it and use it for so much more. Your intuition is yours and yours alone to rediscover and use to your benefit, and maybe even the benefit of others.
Who I Am
Even though I have always been intuitive, I didn’t feel like it was a profession that went beyond the stereotypical scarf-wearing psychics on the boardwalk that have a reputation of being fake. I was so wrong. Now, I’m totally at ease with what I do.
I am an international award-winning author, a professional psychic, a healer, and a teacher. That’s my current resume, summed up quite easily. But my background is so much more. I was a public accountant, preparing taxes for others. After that, I was the controller
of a company. And I owned a children’s boutique. Bet you weren’t expecting that! So, how did that change? How did I end up somewhere so different from where I started? I had what I refer to as intuitive guidance
—and I needed to be hit over the head to listen to it.
One day, shortly after I had my first daughter, when I was still working as the controller of a company, using mostly my left brain, I actually felt like I was hit over the head. Nothing too hard, but intense enough for me to pay attention to it. And I heard the words You need to do this work now. That was it! That was my life-
changing event. And to anyone else, it might sound like I made it up, or even—and forgive me for saying it—it might seem a bit crazy. But I knew in that moment, when I heard those words, that it was real.
Being metaphysically hit over the head decades ago was the wake-up call I needed to use my birthright, my intuition. But this book is not just my coming-out story as a professional psychic. It is so much more. This is real life—my life, and the lives of others. This book is a collection of stories from people who describe themselves as normal, everyday people—people who have accepted that using their intuition is indeed natural and, as a matter of fact, it is helpful! Imagine that.
Who We All Are
We are creators. We are doers. We are thinkers. We are people. In that way, we are all similar. We need food and water to survive, some form of interaction. That’s what makes us human. But we are also all unique. There is not one single person that is exactly you, except you.
We all have interests, and most of us have things in life that we feel drawn to. We won’t all have the same interests or be excited by the same things. We may have some commonalities, but we also have many differences, and that’s what builds strong communities and schools and societies in general. This is fantastic, because the world needs everyone, from garbage collectors to scientists, from musicians to accountants, from doctors to sculptors, and everything in between. We need everyone to function, to keep us going as a civilization. Whether we want to or not, we all play a role. So why not make our contribution something that not only helps the group as a whole, but also makes us excited to wake up in the morning? Why not imagine we can have and be more?
Imagination. That is where our dreams live: early goals of being firefighters or movie stars or ballerinas or professional athletes—all those things we thought of when we were little, things we forgot about because we were told they weren’t realistic … Those are our dreams that went to die. But the thing is, our childhood dreams have a lot to teach us. Most people have visions of who they want to be or emulate when they’re younger because they are drawn to a certain path. For instance, the kid who wanted to be a firefighter may be drawn to helping others. The child who wanted to be a movie star might find themselves wanting to be a teacher or lecturer, or another profession where they are regularly in the spotlight. So often, though, we abandon our dreams for practical reasons: we have to support ourselves and, eventually, our family. We give up on our dreams for more real-world endeavors. And this is not a terrible thing. However, we have the power to achieve so much more.
When we turn inward, or even to the heavens, and ask for guidance, what we receive back is usually a muted intuitive sense, and if we are smart, we listen to it. We explore it. We consider it to be more than just imagination. And that is the beginning, an opening to what could be a whole new life. Learning to trust that feeling—that vision in the mind’s eye—might take a while. That’s okay. Often, it’s a process. It’s important to investigate it further. It’s crucial to believe intuition is
