The Pantara Desert Incident
It is yet to be understood why an expedition should have a fear of traveling out into an unknown area. It is necessary to try to keep one's head off without panicking because some trips can be very scary, especially with the darkness of the night.
Here was a crew of twenty-five or thirty people, biologists and physicists, arriving at a parking lot of a large motel called the Silver Horseshoe. They all arrived on a silver-blue Greyhound bus which was a double-decker. It left on this trip from Lockport, New York. When this bus and its crew arrived at the Silver Horseshoe Motel and drove into the parking lot, it was escorted by a parts and mechanics truck which contained an assortment of parts and tools that would service a large-wheel machine waiting in this parking lot. This large wheel machine was called a Buffalo. It was made in Buffalo, New York. This Buffalo wheel machine was very large. These thirty people who were aboard this blue Greyhound bus departed from Lockport. This bus was headed to the hotel lobby, and each person registered at the desk. This was on a Friday afternoon at about 1:00 p.m. These thirty people proceeded to walk into the area where the rooms were located, in the northern half of the motel building, and each couple found the room that they wanted. At 8:00 a.m. on Friday, this large Buffalo machine was driven from Buffalo, driven from Buffalo, New York, and arrived at this motel at about 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

Then it was parked in the southern half of the parking lot for a crew of mechanics to work on and inspect this big Buffalo. Before this Buffalo was to start out on this expedition the next Saturday morning, it was to be completely inspected from bumper to bumper. This inspection would consist of the engine, brakes, drivetrain, electrical and air-conditioning system, and its tires, engine's cooling systems, and hydraulics. The mechanics replaced a lot of drivetrain parts that they really did not have to replace but did anyhow.
The son of the codriver was Tom Laveque. His father was John Laveque. Tom was a bit retarded. The main driver or captain was a Gary Christiano. Gary did not like Tom because he considered him a dummy. The thirty people who arrived on the Greyhound bus at 1:00 p.m. at the motel gave the go-ahead for the mechanics crew to start working on the Buffalo vehicle to get it ready for the expedition the following Saturday morning.
The codriver's son, Tom Laveque, wanted some of the parts that were replaced because, to him, they were a pretty color. Tom asked Gary, the main driver, if he could have the replaced parts, and Gary said no, he could not, which was not fair of Gary. The trailer that this Buffalo was to pull was next for inspection which meant that it had to go through the same type of inspection that the Buffalo had to go through that would be pulling it. This was now Friday night.
The parts that Tom Laveque wanted were put into a large dumpster behind the motel. The trailer had bedding facilities, but everyone bedded out inside the motel. Around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, Tom very quietly got out of bed, left the motel, and headed out behind the west end of the motel building where the dumpster was.
Tom found a fair-size wooden box in which he put these parts. He took with him a good flashlight, took those parts that he wanted, put them in this wooden box, and then placed it in the trailer under a table which was bolted to the
