About this ebook
Hellraiser meets Black history as the Box of Bones exacts revenge throughout time and space.
When Black graduate student Lyndsey begins her dissertation work on a mysterious box that pops up during the most violent and troubled time in Africana history, she has no idea that her research will lead her on a phantasmagorical journey from West Philadelphia riots to Haitian slave uprisings. Wherever Lyndsey finds someone who has seen the Box, chaos ensues. Soon, even her own sanity falls into question. In the end, Lyndsey will have to decide if she really wants to see what's inside the Box of Bones. Described as "Tales from the Crypt Meets Black History," Box of Bones is a supernatural nightmare tour through some of the most violent and horrific episodes in the African Diaspora.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received this book for free as a part of a test pilot for a Rosarium Mystery Box -- and it ended up being an A+ example of why the concept should work. I absolutely never would have picked this book up for myself. Partly because I am having a bit of a graphic novel dry spell -- where I pick up titles that look interesting but just can't commit to buying any. Also because its mob/PI/conjure-man story isn't a part of my usual genres. But I really enjoyed this. Partly because it felt so surprising and fun to mash those story elements together. Plus Frank is a man with enough troubles (and demons, including the literal Devil) of his own that he probably should just find a hole somewhere and keep his head down, but instead his is compelled to endanger himself to help the helpless, over and over.Dark and compelling. With art that is such a good fit for the mood of the story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A graphic novel set in Depression era Chicago with a protagonist who has sold his soul to the Devil for hoodoo powers. Another conjure man has created a monster to avenge a murder and Half-Dead Johnson agrees to prevent the monster from killing a former associate. Grey-wash art sets the tone. A genuine invocation of American racial politics in fantasy form.
