There is Compelling Evidence for the Soon Return of Christ!

We are living in one of the most exciting times in this world’s history while we await the Return of Jesus Christ. Many years ago, students at the Bible Institute of South Africa in Kalk Bay were invited to Cape Town University to hear an eminent Man of the Cloth from the World Council of Churches speaking on the Second Coming of Christ. I was very excited. I came from a Church in Durban that believed and taught the Rapture of the Church and the Return of Christ. We set off with great enthusiasm.

To my absolute dismay and distress, the preacher made a complete mockery of the literal return of Jesus Christ to this earth. Every time someone believes in Christ, he said, that is the return of Christ. He went on to insist that only ignorant and unlearned people believe in the Rapture and literal fulfilment of Bible prophecy.

I was shocked and returned to my room at the Bible Institute with a strong desire to study the Scriptures for myself. From that day, this became my passion, and it has continued for nearly 46 years. I am still passionate about the Return of Christ… and occupying until He comes.

I read everything I could find on the subject and studied the Bible in minute detail. Many of the Bible School lecturers seemed to favour the amillennial view of the Second Coming, i.e. there is no Rapture and no Millennial Reign of Christ. We had many heated debates about this topic as students. I was in the minority most times, but this truth burned in my heart, and I earnestly sought answers.

One of the part-time lecturers was a delightful Baptist Minister named Dr Sheriffs. He was a student of ancient languages and interested in my search for truth. He gave me a thick book about the Rapture and Return of Christ, and I literally devoured every word. I don’t remember the author, but it was a scholarly work, carefully researched and backed by Scripture. It made a lasting impression on me.
