Introduction
The book Contemporary Development (?) Trends in India is a compilation of research work I conducted in last few years. The question mark in the title of the book is intentionally added to imply whether the development really is developments and if so, then development for whom. The research work compiled in Part I of this book specifically highlights the so-called development of Navi Mumbai City and its repercussions borne by the project affected people (PAP) in Navi Mumbai. The question mark in the title is for the apathetic attitude of the government body, CIDCO, towards the PAPs while developing this city.
The book is thematically divided in three sections: Section I comprises research work highlighting development (?) process in Navi Mumbai and the impact of online education on mental health of children of PAP during COVID 19 Pandemic; Section II comprises research work highlighting various industrial trends in India and Section III delves deeper into various government policies and their impact on Indian economy.
Section I includes two research papers exploring government’s attitude towards project affected people during development process in Navi Mumbai and the scenario of mental health of children in PAP families during COVID19 Pandemic. Chapter 1, A Review of Rehabilitation Measures Implemented by CIDCO in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
is the summarized report of a minor research project undertaken by me.
It is said that development projects are undertaken for the betterment of a country. When we say betterment of a country, it obviously means the betterment of the people in the country. However, the scenario in India at the time of undertaking development projects shows a very different picture. Vast literature review done by author proves that in development process, those government bodies who undertake these development projects
ignore the development of those people who are affected due to this development process. Rehabilitation of these project affected people has really remained only on paper. In reality, such PAPs are merely considered the part and parcel of development process, hence remain ever neglected. Whenever such development projects are undertaken by government, it considers the infrastructural, industrial development of a mere particular area and not of those native people. These so-called cities seem to be developed to provide a huge platform for the benefit of the outsiders and conveniently ignores the natives of such cities. The cases of increasing slums in gaothans of such cities, unhygienic conditions prevalent there, uncleanliness of gaothans, unemployment faced by these PAPs, their diminishing social status all these problems are conveniently shoved under the carpet by the government.
The case of rehabilitation measures implemented by CIDCO for PAPs in Navi Mumbai is one of the examples of such development (?) project undertaken by the government. Chapter 1 highlights these rehabilitation measures implemented for project affected people and the people actually benefited (or suffered?) in this development process. The research highlights the actual reach of such rehabilitation measures to those PAPs, problems faced by PAPs such as landlessness, unemployment, unhygienic Gaothan conditions, overcrowding of migrants, diminishing social status and so on.
Chapter 2, A Study of Impact of Online Education on Mental Health and cademic Performance of Children of Project Affected People Studying at Undergraduate Level in Navi Mumbai
focuses on the impact of online education on mental health of children in PAP families in Navi Mumbai during COVID 19 Pandemic. My research shows that more than 70% project affected people are from middle income group. These people cannot afford better digital services due to average financial condition. Lack of better digital services and sufficient internet data and internet connectivity affect the learning ability of these students which led to mental stress among these children adversely affecting academic performance.
Section II of the book emphasizes on current trends formulating in Indian Industries. This section comprises three research papers. Chapter 3, Emerging New Digital Working Style in CIDCO during Current Covid19 Pandemic in Navi Mumbai- A study
highlights the changing working style of CIDCO from traditional to digital during COVID 19 Pandemic and the adaptive nature of industries towards wholly digitalization during the pandemic situations.
Chapter 4, Study of the Comparison between CSR Activities initiated by Public and Private Companies in India
focuses on CSR activities undertaken by public and private banks in India in recent years. A comparative analysis of CSR activities undertaken by public and private banks in India shows the in-differentness among the activities focused as CSR activities by both types of companies.
Chapter 5,
