Can Mistletoe And Kisses make all the difference when it comes to matters of the heart?
I started this series with Sweet On You, which was for a anthology. It was supposed to be a sweet romance, with no steamy scenes. I wasn't sure how to handle that, so I thought…..I'll use my friends kids names. I would have to keep it clean then, lol. So the story of Kinsley and her brother was formed. After writing that story, Denver and Autumn needed a story, so again using my friends names I ventured off to write this story. I hope I did you all proud.
Sophie, Suzie and Alyssa, thank you for helping to keep me inspired in using your children's and grandchild's names to write these stories. I hope that this story plays out for them in real life in finding that sweet forever love in the way, way, way future.
I am blessed to have such incredible friends to support me and guide me when I need it. These stories were so sweet to write and I found I really enjoyed stepping into the sweet side of love and trying something a little different.
I can't wait to watch these little ones grow and I hope they stay sweet and find incredible love to fill their hearts and lives with.
Chapter one
Denver
My little sister is getting married to my best friend. I can’t believe for so many years that my best friend Dakota was in love with my sister, and I discouraged it. I forbade it. Yes, I’m that jerk.
Kinsley is my baby sister. Our parents were killed in a car accident while she was a sophomore in high school. I lived out of town. I was happy enough. I came home every Sunday to have dinner with the family, which always included Dakota. But after their deaths, I moved home to take care of my sister. To see her through high school and college. It’s what my parents did for me and I know it’s what they would have wanted for Kinsley as well.
Dakota lived with us for his junior and senior year in high school because his dad wanted to move and take Dakota with him, only his dad never really paid attention to him. Neither did his mom. His mom died and his dad just wanted to move, so my parents spoke up. He was welcome to stay in our home to finish school. He practically lived with us anyway.
When I first realized Dakota had feelings for Kinsley, I was beyond angry. I mean, she’s my baby sister. Dakota was my age, eight years her senior. What would he want with my sister? Well, that sounded crass. I mean, my sister is fabulous, but the age gap alone was enough to make me nervous. Plus, they grew up together. Dakota was like a brother to me, so wouldn’t he be like a brother to Kinsley as well?
Kinsley and I live in the house we grew up in—our parents’ home. Kinsley opened her own bakery after taking business courses in college. Me, well, I’m a graphic designer. I helped my sister open her bakery, designed her logo, Sweet On You, and as much of a hardship as it was, I taste tested all her products.
Kinsley took over cooking after our parents died. At first, it was mostly canned soups and sandwiches, but she quickly learned how to cook better and bake. She used to help our mom in the kitchen all the time, so she had skills, unlike me. If it was up to me, we’d be eating frozen dinners and grabbing take out.
Luckily, my little sister took care of us and made sure we had meals to eat. She ran her business from the house for a while until the bakery in town went up for sale and she pounced. She’d had her eye on it for a long time, and together, we made her dream come alive. What about my dreams, you might ask? Well, now that Kinsley is happy and marrying a great guy, I guess it’s time for me to figure out what’s in store for my future.
When my parents died, I didn’t bother to dream. When I was younger, I only wanted to draw, but now, seeing Kinz and Dakota happy, it made me want that too. I want to find someone to share a life with and someone who can make my heart thump. Well, and it would help if they could cook too, so I didn’t starve.
First things first, though. We’re moving Dakota into my family home, and I need to find a place to live. I want Kinsley to have the house. She loves it and as long as she is living in it, I still have a home. But I’m not going to live here with them forever. Dakota is moving into the master bedroom where he and Kinsley will eventually both be, leaving the two bedrooms we used growing up empty. They told me I didn’t have to leave, but hearing my sister and best friend knocking boots… hell to the no. So, I’m on the hunt. Kinsley is adamant that until the wedding she is not moving fully into the master bedroom. She’s very old-fashioned, thankfully. I don’t know how I would have survived her growing up if she hadn’t held to those old-school values.
Me, you might ask, what are my values? Well, I’ve dated. I may have messed around a bit here and there, but yes, I am much like my sister. I want to be in love with the woman I make love with. I don’t want a cheap fling. I want what
