The character in this book named Khloe is named after Khloe Teresa Gaugh, a wonderful young lady.

Chapter 1

The school bus stopped in front of Stevie's house. She climbed up the steps and found her seat. She was so excited to see all her friends, whom she had not seen all summer. Everyone on the bus was talking and laughing, and before Stevie knew it, the bus pulled into the parking lot. She had arrived. Stevie's first day of third grade was about to begin.

The first thing Stevie did was to find her new classroom. As she walked down the halls, she took in all the different bulletin boards the teachers had made. This year, her teacher was Mr. Melmet. She heard only good things about him. He told great jokes and even played music sometimes during quiet work time.

She entered the classroom and looked for Khloe, her best friend, who was also going to be in Mr. Melmet's class. Khloe had short blonde hair and green eyes. She was shorter than Stevie, and this time of year, she always wore shorts and sandals. Stevie, on the other hand, was tall, had long brown hair, and usually dressed in jeans, T-shirts, and sneakers.

Everyone found their assigned seats. Stevie wished she could sit next to Khloe, but that was not the case this year. Khloe was seated two rows over but looked up, saw Stevie, and waved.

Mr. Melmet called the class to order and introduced himself. As he spoke, he wrote a few things about himself on the board like where he was born, his favorite movie and music, plus what he did over the summer break. He ended his little speech by saying, I'd love to hear what some of you did over the summer break.

Stevie was excited to tell the class what she did, but she waited until after a few people spoke up first. She was a little nervous to talk
