    Raining Again

    Felix Alexander

    It’s raining again.

    Just like last week.

I didn’t mind the rain last week.

It was only a minor nuisance, a slight twist of fate that we laughed at.

    But last week was different.

    Last week was with you.

Yesterday, the counselors sat the marching band down in the school’s

              auditorium

    and told us what happened.

You, torn from our grasp by your own hands.

There was no music in the air that day.

The words, quietly spoken - almost whispered - dealt the loudest blow.

Tonight is the homecoming football game.

I can tell there is something in the air,

    like that damp smell
