Dedicated to all those who work to protect wild animals and their habitats. Thank you!
Dear Reader,
After Jenna used Ituria’s magic to turn hunter Ike into a tree to keep him from hurting her grandpa and Ralphie, things started returning to normal—at least for a few months. Now, one of the hunters who came with Ike to find a dragon has returned, and he’s asking a lot of questions. This hunter, Mitch, also claims to have seen a dragon, and he is suspicious of Jenna because of Ike’s story that he saw her turn into a wolf.
Realizing that he can no longer use Middle Forest as a base, Ituria has asked the Elders to consider appointing Jenna as its newest Protector. Jenna must make a decision that will affect not only her life, but the life of all the inhabitants of Ituria’s home base on Earth.
But first she must deal with the threat of Mitch in Middle Forest. Will she be able to outsmart Mitch, or will he succeed where Ike failed? And how will she, a 12-year-old human, appear to the Elders—will they consider her worthy to serve as the first human Protector?
Join me as we learn how Jenna deals with this newest threat to Ituria’s Alliance, and if she has the courage and spirit to take on the role of Protector of Middle Forest!
Sincerely,
Knocker,
First Guard to Ituria
Chapter One
Secrets Revealed
Jenna looked out from the back yard into the forest beyond. Her memories of transforming into a wolf to protect her grandpa and her fox friend Ralphie seemed far away, almost unreal. Looking at her grandfather resting in the chair next to her, the setting sun gave him the shadow of a bear, and now she under stood why.
Over the past few months, her grandpa told her several stories of his adventures with Knocker and Ituria. He told her how he met Ituria and Knocker many, many years ago when he was just a boy. She smiled as she remembered the first adventure grandpa shared, his earliest trip to the moon to visit Ituria’s Islands, and how he helped solve a mystery that was killing the plants in the caverns of the moon, threatening the lives of all the inhabitants.
Jenna was fascinated to learn that Ituria, a majestic white unicorn, modified a series of caverns on the moon so they could provide homes to animals that were being needlessly killed by humans on Earth. Grandpa also told her of his role in Ituria’s Alliance, a secret organization on Earth, composed of both humans and animals, to help Ituria on his rescue missions.
Knocker, a large dragon assigned as Ituria’s First Guard, joined them on several occasions for their evening talks near the forest’s edge. His translation stone allowed Jenna and her grandfather to understand his dragon speak, and he stayed in the shadows of the forest so he would not be seen by anyone else during their meetings.
Knocker revealed to Jenna there was a magic potion that allowed him to transform into a human for a short period of time, if needed, while on rescue missions. Using the potion and having a translation stone allowed him to blend in with humans while on Earth. He also shared some of his recent adventures, including one where his mission was to rescue endangered tern chicks, and noted Jenna’s grandpa was part of his tern rescue team. While talking with Jenna and Grandpa, Knocker saw Ituria heading their way through the forest.
Knocker,
Ituria called out in a worried voice as he got closer. We have an issue that needs to be resolved. Please review the most recent recording sent by Dan’s seal. Russ and Jenna, please watch also, as it concerns Ike.
Jenna gave Grandpa a worried look as they walked toward Ituria. What is going on—how can Ike be involved? I turned him into a tree in Middle Forest!
Ituria nodded his head and a large gourd appeared on the table in the back yard near the edge of
