    BECOMING A BALLERINA

A Man Magically Becomes a Woman

    To my readers, always

What brings you here today, Donald? Nanette asked as she exited the hallway. She held her arms out wide as she stared at me and slowly moved across the room. She was wearing a long, flowy brown dress nearly the same color as her hair. Her red nails were long and curled at the tip. She gave off witchy vibes, but she was also feminine and beautiful and everything I wanted to be.

Um… are you really a witch?

Of course, Donald. Why would I lie about something like that? Nanette’s teeth glinted when she flashed a smile and pulled out her chair to take a seat across from me. Her energy was electric, but I was still skeptical of the entire magic thing, and even if magic was real, I doubted that Nanette could turn me into the girl I dreamed of becoming.

    The head ballerina.

    The one everyone admired.

I was already a ballet dancer now. A danseur. Not a ballerina. There was no glory in the dance as a man. People didn’t stare at me. I was nothing but support for the pretty girls to do their grand jetes, flying through the air like deer skipping through a forest. People would tell me that I was overreacting and that male ballet dancers had plenty of attention on them, especially with the tight pants and all, but I didn’t want to be a danseur.

I wanted to be a ballerina.

Donald, I asked you a question. Why would you accuse me of lying about being a witch?

I shrugged. Seems like something people would lie about.

I assure you that I’m not lying, and I hope that I can help you, but you’ll have to tell me what it is you want first. I might be a witch, but I’m also on a schedule.

Sorry, I said softly. It’s hard for me to say what I want.

Well, spit it out. We don’t have all day.

I nodded, casting my eyes to the side for a brief second before turning my attention back to Nanette. She had an annoyed look on her face as she waited for me to spit out what it was that I wanted.

    Donald!

Sorry! I want you to turn me into a girl, so I can be the head ballerina! There! I said it!

Hmm, Nanette purred as she rubbed her chin and looked at me more closely, but I looked away to avoid her intense gaze, worried that she would put a curse on me. There was no telling if any of this witchcraft business was real, but I didn’t want to take chances. Interesting request. I can turn you into a girl, but I’m not sure that I can give you the skills you need to become a ballerina.

I already have them, I said defensively. I’m a danseur.

Interesting. Very interesting, Nanette said as she walked in a circle around the table, making me feel smaller than an ant as she looked down at me. It’s been a long time since I’ve turned a boy into a girl.

    You’ve done it before?

Once a long time ago for a good friend of mine.

    What happened to him?

He’s living as a woman. What else? Nanette said.

A shiver ran down my spine as she cackled. I knew that I
