You Have It Within You to Be Great! The Ultimate Self-Study Guide to Realizing Your Potential - Colleen A. Jenkins

Chapter 1: You Are Destined for Greatness.

Almost everyone has secret hopes and aspirations they'd want to fulfill, but many of them doubt their own abilities to do so. They don't have faith in themselves and their talents to think that their goals and aspirations are feasible. People with this outlook tend to dismiss their hopes and goals as unrealistic ideals. The first step in realizing your goals is accepting the fact that you already possess the potential and the greatness necessary to go where you want to go.

While we all have the potential to do great things, many of us in the modern world face barriers that keep us from reaching our full potential. There are several potential roadblocks, one of which is the idea we may have been given at an early age that our potential is limited. It's possible that if we come from a financially disadvantaged background, we won't have the chance or the means to improve our financial situation. Our family has been impoverished for so long and with so few options that we have accepted the fact that we would never be able to change our situation.

Another challenge is that our family may have a history of success in a certain profession, and we may feel obligated to follow in their footsteps if we want to be accepted by them, even if our genuine abilities and potential lay elsewhere. If everyone in a family has joined the military, even if that path doesn't seem like the greatest match for them individually, they may feel pressured to follow in their relatives' footsteps and try to build a career in the military. To do differently may be regarded as an affront to the family or be looked upon as turning one's back on the family, even when that person's finest abilities and brilliance lay in a vocation outside of the military.

In the face of such challenges, many individuals settle for mediocrity, choosing careers or lifestyles that may provide them with a certain level of success but ultimately leave them feeling unfulfilled. That's a shame, because if we follow our greatness, we'll end up with the training and employment opportunities that allow us to conduct meaningful work and have a positive impact on the world. Fortunately, we are not confined by these limitations, nor should we be if we are to discover our genuine greatness and realize our full potential.

Humans are at their most productive when they are engaged in an endeavor that excites and excites them. In today's culture, many individuals go through the motions at work, doing what they need to do to be paid so they can pay their bills and maintain a roof over their heads. Many of these workers aren't happy in their jobs, but they stick it out because they are qualified enough to keep their jobs, the pay is good enough to provide for themselves and their families, and having a job is preferable to being unemployed. However, many individuals aren't fulfilled and aren't using their full potential because they haven't identified their calling and the career or set of responsibilities that best use their talents and interests.

Therefore, we must make an effort to participate in a wide variety of activities and challenges throughout our life in order to determine our genuine strengths and areas of interest. This is typically simplest to accomplish at school, which is why many first-year students at universities take their time to sample a wide range of classes before settling on a major. Because of this, most students wait until the end of their sophomore year to choose a major (although certain majors, like business and medicine, may necessitate an earlier decision). Even if you're not a student (i.e., you're older than a student), you should still try new things to determine whether your strengths and passions lay somewhere else than where you're at now.

It's possible, for instance, to push yourself by doing things for charity that are beyond your comfort zone, or typical routine. Volunteering to aid the homeless would likely call for a different set of abilities and personality traits than those you use in your day job if, for instance, you are an accountant, marketing, or chief executive officer (CEO). You may be preparing meals, transporting materials, and constructing dwellings instead of doing accounting, marketing, or managerial duties. Volunteering may help to add new talents to your profile, plus it can provide your insight into you as a person and help you find out whether you can have a larger effect on our world in another manner, uncover your real greatness inside you and utilize it to serve the world, and yourself as well.

It takes a lot of courage for most individuals to try new things and challenge themselves. One possible explanation is that humans have an innate aversion to unfamiliar or unfamiliarizing experiences. It's simply human nature to shy away from the unknown, whether it's out of pure instinct or pure terror. As human beings, we also worry about failing at the tasks we sign up for or volunteer for. This is for two reasons: first, we don't like to perform poorly at something, as this brings down our self-esteem and self-confidence, and second, we fear being replaced by someone better in a work environment. Another factor is the worry that people will judge us harshly if they see that we are unable to perform well in front of them.

To discover your greatness, you need to conquer these concerns and hesitations. It's normal to experience these emotions; even some people
