I’m coming! I shouted from my bedroom.

I’d walked in only two minutes ago from my divorce party. Yeah, it was so exciting, that the only thing I could think of was coming inside and going to bed.

The bell stopped ringing, and whoever was outside just thumped on the door.

Cristina? I asked as I looked through the peephole and saw my bestie on the other side of the door.

Innocently, she was waving a bottle of rosé in my face. The last thing I needed to do was drink more after just getting home from the bar. I was exhausted, which was why I came home early—my pj’s were screaming my name. Then, it was as if in the Uber on the way here, I could feel myself getting more and more awake, until I got to my room and imagined myself passing out on my bed. But no. Insomnia kicked in. I couldn’t sleep. This always happened whenever the kids were away.

She pushed past me when I opened the door, not waiting for me to invite her in.
