About this ebook
About the Book
Walk in the Light is a tribute to our former first African-American President of the United States of America and is dedicated mostly to young men whose fathers were not around to help their mothers, who struggle every day to make ends meet. Barack Hussein Obama Jr. is a great role model for all young men regardless of creed or color. Our young men today need to know that if Obama could become President of the United States of America, they too can study hard, get a good education, and never give up staying with God.

The First African-American Forefather of the United States of America - Louella Hinton Tate
ArchBishop
Louella Hinton Tate
Louella Hinton Brown, at the tender age of 12, accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in Monticello, Georgia. Her mentor in her childhood years was her teacher Louella Catching. Ten years after Louella became a preacher, her teacher, Louella Catching, followed her into the calling of the ministry as a preacher herself.
Louella’s grandmother, Melinda Brown, taught her everything she knows about the way of holiness. Her mother, Catherine Brown, instilled in Louella the virtues of gentleness, kindness, and sweet persona. After having bore five handsome sons, Vincent, Bill, Henry, Patrick, and Philip, Louella raised them in reverence to the Lord Jesus Christ, and answered the call of Almighty God to the bishopric. The Walk In The Light Church really began in 1970 at her home, 760 Tower Avenue, with her husband, five sons, her sister Linda, and four close friends. Bishop Tate was writing for the Starr Newspaper when she says God started giving her messages. Mr. William Hale later bought the Starr and the name changed to The Hartford Inquirer. With the Inquirer, came Reverend Milt Nixon, with The Happy Preacher Show.
He invited Louella to participate and this was her first ministry broadcast on the radio. Bishop Tate also produced What’s Happening in The Community
aired on Channel 5, Hartford Public Access television. She became so inspired by the Community Renewal Team in 1985 under the direction of Ralph Davis, who was a community activist, and was a director in the program that she happy to be employed as a field outreach worker in Bloomfield, CT. By working with the people in the community through CRT, Archbishop Tate saw the real needs of the people. She started feeling by supernatural means. Divine providence let her know that a lot of her listeners were starving both naturally and spiritually for food.
She started having revelations from God in the spiritual realm. Wherever she went to pray for the people, the people were healed through her prayer and she knew that God’s Word was true. If you believe, when you pray, the people will be healed.
Her husband encouraged her to open a church. God had given him the message to give to her. Louella’s entire life is geared to the passage in the book tales, Tales that say,
You do not guide someone you love, but God guides anyone he wishes, he is quite aware as to who are guided. The Lord gave Bishop Louella Hinton Tate the vision and heavenly master plan for the organization named Walk In The Light Church of God Incorporated in 1977 in a storefront on lower Albany Avenue in the Clay Hill area of Hartford. While the Church continued to grow, Walk In The Light Outreach Ministries Inc. moved to 678 Blue Hills Avenue in 1991 to continue to work. You may ask,
Why did the outreach center exist? With the love of God in her heart and undying love and obedience to our Lord, her purpose has always been to give emergency assistance to residents with many trouble that have fallen through the cracks of society’s forgotten but needy residents. Bishop Tate cannot forget the Asylum Hill Congregation Church and its pastor, Dr. Jim Kidd. It was around this time, near Christmas, when we were going to be evicted; Dr. Kidd came from his church and paid our bill. We then moved to Blue Hills Avenue. God said leave, and that’s exactly what we did. We left Albany Avenue. After the move we immediately began to see the move of God. The crime in our
new neighborhood greatly declined due to much prayer and our efforts to work with the community. Mary Hess headed our Board of Directors at the Blue Hills location. She helped us with her wisdom, knowledge, and financial support. Mr. Thirman Milner was another instrumental supporter. He introduced us to Food share and provided other valuable resources to aid the development and enhancement of our operations. Mary resigned at the age of 80, and Mr. Joseph Smith became Chairmen of the Board. Mr. Smith made significant strides with our efforts to help senior citizens and children who are at-risk; he spearheaded our Welfare-to-Work Program and also helped to register citizens to vote. He organized the
Walk for Work March" health fairs with the Urban League, and many other programs to instill self-esteem and community pride. In the millennium year 2000, we relocated in downtown Hartford.
When you make the most of a little, God will continue to promote you to a higher ground.
She was then located at 487 Main Street, becoming The Walk In The Light Metro Resource Center for 5 years. Her metro resource center invited all clergy and social action agencies to use what God had given us. This resource center also included a chapel that was used for prayer and weddings. During the past two years Archbishop Louella Tate’s many accolades include in 2005, she completed pastoral counseling courses at St. Francis Academy and her nonprofit Executive Director training at Trinity College. In 2006, she also completed supervisory counseling training at St. Francis Academy and an advanced Director training at Trinity College. Further, in 2006 she was certified to be an advanced counseling supervisor.
The Lord once again instructed Louella to move from 487 Main Street back to 678 Blue Hills area, completing the circle from Albany Avenue to Main Street, and back home to 672 Blue Hills Avenue.
