    NICK

Dude! Anyone ever told you that you work too much? My brother Cole shakes his head as we pull into the vacant parking lot of my office.

I refuse to rise to the jibe. I kept my promise to buy him a steak dinner to celebrate his birthday. Waiting in the truck while I send a quick file is not going to kill him.

It’ll take me five minutes tops.

Sure it will. Cole turns his attention to his phone, scrolling some site with short video clips.

I’ll be right back, I promise, and pop out of the truck before he can give me anymore shit. Cole owns an auto body shop with his buddy. He’s not opposed to working some long hours, but he’s never been a fan of the office setting.

I made her a vow before she died; I’d do whatever it took to have my own office, ethically speaking of course. I’m not about to let her down when I’m so close to becoming the Director of Marketing for Holloway Enterprises.

Finishing my report gets me one step closer to that goal.

Two steps out of the elevator, I catch a glimpse of someone down the hall. I hear my boss’s voice before I can make out his face in the dimness. Nick Taylor, what’re you doing here this late?

Hey boss. Just had something to finish up.

Mind stopping by my office for a minute?

My phone buzzes in my pocket—no doubt it’s my impatient brother. I ignore him. I haven’t even been inside the building long enough to log into my computer much less be finished with my report. Sure thing.

I need to ask a favor, Nick. Grant Holloway only calls his highest-level employees by their first names. If the sun were up and the office filled, I would’ve been addressed as Mr. Taylor. He takes a casual seat behind his massive
