I started this on a 1.5-hour plane trip. I figured I would enjoy it and keep reading or forget it by the time the plane deboarded and go on with my life. I am not a huge fan of the Harlequin categories generally, but every now and then I hit a good one. And this one is making me want to do a major glom of this author's work.

I kept reading. I so enjoyed it.
The writing was wonderfully evocative of feelings. You could feel the physical and mental pain of the protags, the machinations they went through to get where they ended up. There was not "insta-love cures all" ending. They each had to work through issues to get to the end.

The plot devices were just that, plot devices; but they were well thought out and effectively used.

The editing was nice and tight. And oh, not a misspelling in sight. I know this was not a self-pub, but gee, so nice not to see a misspelling on every page.

The kids were not moppets, but they were effectively used. I think she might have had a few too many, but it is all good. I actually have a child that competes in these academic/quiz bowl-type events so I know a lot of kids are needed so that was authentic at least, if a bit unwieldy in the story itself.

Good story. Dealt well with the emotional trauma soldiers suffer and I like that it was drawn out over several months. Didn't like that they were separated for so long.

Really, really enjoyed this story. Was thrown a bit by the hero’s description; kept thinking of him as an old man. Took quite a while for me to ’see’ him as not. But other than that I thought the story was very moving and realistic. I’d highly recommend it.

This was a good story about overcoming personal demons and fiinding that it's okay to have real love. John's story is hearbreaking; I think everyone who is/knows a solider can find their story in his. Fiona is a strong woman. She is willing to brave heartbreak and disappointment to be with the man she loves. Together they grow stronger in their love and John finds that with with people he loves he can finally heal.

Very nice romance -- characters you easily care about, a wealth of quirky supporting characters, and a relationship that doesn't happen so rapidly that its unbelievable. The old chestnut of the couple trapped at a remote location and out of communication is handed well, with the twist being that 8 high school students are also trapped with them at the same time. I'll have to watch for more by this author...I'm impressed.
