About this ebook

After a practical joke played by the Sock Children backfires, Sock finds herself trapped and in very serious danger with no means of escape. As she fears for her life, Eddiesock and the Footwear Friends struggle to come up with a rescue plan. Reluctantly asking the Clockwork Puppy for his help, they race against time to save Sock from being captured and worn by the nasty Human Feet and to bring her safely back home! When Eddiesock decides to propose, his plans are discovered by a jealous Shoe Sweetheart, who feels angry and hurt. Unwilling to keep the news a secret, she immediately informs TwinTwin, the long-lost partner of Sock, who is desperate for them to become re-paired. As they unite to form a crafty plan and prevent the wedding from taking place, they also hope this will get rid of Eddiesock and his family for good. As Twin-Twin makes up her mind to win back Sock's partnership, will their cruel plan succeed or will the first-ever Sock Wedding take place after all?

    Chapter 1

    OEBPS/images/image0002.png

Sock was having a bad dream, tossing and turning restlessly as

she slept. All socks are frightened of Human Feet and of being ‘worn’ and no sock wants to be stuck on the outside of five smelly toes or find itself on the inside of a stinky old shoe.

As Sock dreamt that she had been captured with no chance to

escape and was about to be subjected to this terrible fate, it was

quickly becoming a nightmare! Meanwhile, the Sock Children,

whom she adored, were misbehaving again by playing practical jokes. The previous day Sock had almost worn herself threadbare from running around after them trying, and failing, to keep their behaviour under control, causing the sock family and their Footwear Friends to go and find peace and quiet elsewhere.

The Sock Club was run by the older socks and was currently

closed. Held in the washing machine when it wasn’t in use, it was

the main area where the socks would gather each week to hold

meetings and discuss any plans, as socks love to have fun! It had

been closed for several days because of an excess blockage of tissues, which had been caused by Cousin Miserable. Known as the ‘Black Sheep’ of the family, the little sock had been crying since her arrival three weeks earlier and several large boxes of tissues had been needed to mop up her tears, which had been craftily stuffed into the machine by the Sock Children when no one was looking! The next meeting was due to be held very soon, so the machine needed fixing before everything could return to normal.

The Footwear Friends, who lived close to the socks, including Shoe Sweetheart and the Pink Slippers, were not allowed to become members or to join in their meetings but they were welcomed by the sock family as they all had one thing in common – a hatred for Human Feet!

Sock had been feeling tired for several days as the Sock Children

demanded so much attention. Mischief was always afoot when

the naughty socks couldn’t settle and this was one of those times.

Still wide awake, despite being in the middle of the night, they felt

restless and bored, although everyone else was asleep. Everyone

included grumpy old Doc Marten, who was always the last of their

Footwear Friends to retire to his cupboard under the stairs, having so many bootlaces to untie first!

Sock slept in a small shoebox, which had once been home to a

small pair of bootees and was decorated with ribbons and lace.

She was snoring so loudly that she drowned out the ticking coming from the little clock on the wall. As the Sock Children exchanged mischievous glances, they formed a plan of action before Sock and her snoring could wake anyone up!
