Maxine and Tammy are best friends who have stood by each other through all of the ups and downs of their lives. They have the type of friendship that everyone would want for themselves but there is one thing that stands between them and its the fact that Tammy can't stand Maxine's cheating boyfriend Marcus. Maxine stays with Marcus through it all and she can't seem to let go, no matter how many times Tammy tells her that she deserves better. Will she ever choose her best friend's side or will she choose to stay with her man through anything. Chapter 1

It's 2:30am and he’s stood me up once again. Am I surprised? No, not at all. After all, it’s only the one-hundredth time he’s done this. I don’t know why he insists on stringing me along when he knows his intentions for me are all bad. I honestly blame myself more than I blame him because he only does as much as I allow him to do. I’m sure I must sound like a complete idiot but I love that man with everything inside me. We’ve been together for five years and it's been one hell of a long rollercoaster ride but I was just about ready to get off. I glanced at my phone yet again just to make sure I hadn’t accidentally turned my ringer off or missed a text message alert. Nothing. I walked over to my window and saw no headlights pulling up, I heard no music blasting, and I saw no movement. What the fuck am I doing? I silently cursed myself. Why do I keep on letting him do this shit to me? Where the hell could he be at this hour? I felt myself getting more and more frustrated. I had called him a total of twenty-two times in the past six hours and he didn’t answer once. He is a puppet master and he constantly pulls my strings. We’d made plans to have dinner at my favorite restaurant at eight o’clock and here it was almost three am. Fuck you Kamal! I cursed again. I was furious. I had been excited all day. The perfect black dress that I’d picked out especially for tonight hugged my curves in all the right places and I’d spent hours at the salon getting my hair, nails, and toes done. I had gone to the spa to get a Brazilian wax because he always liked me smooth and I was always glad to cater to whatever he liked. He’d told me in the beginning that he’d always preferred dating women with long hair so I made it a priority to keep an eighteen inch weave at all times. Whatever he wanted from me was exactly what I gave him. He always reminded me that he didn’t like what he referred to as basic women so I make sure I hit the gym and always look my best every single day. He’d never seen me step outside of my place without wearing heels and makeup. He always looked good so I made sure to match his fly at all times. It's actually an understatement when I say he looked good because he was so much more than just good-looking. Kamal was one of the finest men that I have ever had the pleasure of laying my eyes on. Six foot, four inches of caramel glazed goodness is what he was. The beautiful hazel eyes, full lips, deep voice, and jet black waves in his caesar was enough to make any woman moist. A woman would have had to be half dead not to be turned on by him and even then she’d probably rise up and say damn. That's just how fine this man was in my eyes.

There was only one woman I knew who was not impressed by Kamal’s good looks and charm and that was my best friend Tammy. She could not stand the ground he walked on from day one. When I introduced them to each other she pulled me to the side and said girl you cannot be serious right now! I mean damn he’s fine and all but he’s got the word ho written all over him. He’s almost too pretty, I bet he’s gay. You know how many down-low dudes are living in Atlanta these days. I brushed off her comment and I told her she should stop exaggerating so much. Besides, she didn’t even know him well enough to be judging him so soon. Tammy could say what she wanted about Kamal because what I saw was all man and I couldn’t wait to get to know him better. No matter what I did to try to change her mind, I couldn’t and he didn’t make the situation any better because from the beginning, he didn’t do anything to try to get along with her either. I hated the fact that they hated each other but I couldn’t make a choice so I just kept them away from each other as much as possible. I always made sure not to let my relationship with Kamal come in between my friendship with Tammy and I didn’t let my friendship with her come between my relationship with him. I enjoyed spending time with both of them and they were the only people I considered family in the city. Kamal wined and dined me on our first date and it
