    The facts and myths of coffee grounds

    There are a number of facts floating around the internet regarding coffee and coffee grounds. Some of these are true. Some of these are false. Some of these are semi-true – there are elements of truth in them, but not in the way you normally think. The following sections will help lead you through the truth and semi-truth of these internet ‘facts’.

    Coffee grounds are amazing for composting (definitely true)

    The standard advice for coffee grounds is to use them in your compost pile, where they will help to create a nutrient-rich mixture perfect for the garden. This is completely true. Coffee has a carbon-nitrogen ratio which is ideal for composting micro-organisms. The act of composting breaks down any unwanted chemicals and avoids some problems such as compaction which you see with pure coffee grounds. Composting is, quite frankly, an amazing thing to do with your coffee. If you can only try one approach at home, try composting.

    Your worm farm will love coffee grounds (definitely true)

    Worm farms are a great way to quickly turn organic waste into useful soil additives.
