Chapter 1 Huge
Silver Moon sighed. She reached down, but couldn’t reach the coloured pencils on the floor. Her belly was huge at that point and the strain was getting to her. She stood back up and stared at Leon. I can’t get the pencils!
I’d be happy to get them for you.
He picked them up and set them down on the desk. Are you feeling alright?
She frowned. I can’t stand it anymore. I want to give birth. I have too much extra weight to carry around all the time. There isn’t enough room left for her to move around and do whatever she does all day long.
She sighed.
Well, she’ll come soon enough.
It doesn’t feel that way.
She plopped down on the couch. I know due dates aren’t always accurate, but this is just getting ridiculous.
He sat down next to her. I know. I think we’ve done everything we can do to get ready.
I know we have. Now, she just needs to come out and then we’ll be exhausted all the time.
Yeah. You need a massage?
Yes, my feet are sore and my back aches.
He rubbed her feet and massaged her back. She let out a sigh of relief.
Okay, I know everyone is ready for the birth. My father cannot get into the cave, but he will still lend us some magic to help.
I know. That’s fine. There should be plenty of magic happening while I’m pushing out our baby and also helping Elsewhere to be reborn in her realm.
The midwife is ready and knows your due date and knows it’s just a tentative thing. We can contact her when it’s actually time.
That’s at least something. One less thing to worry about. I’d just hate to go to the hospital when everything is fine.
I know you prefer the midwife to a hospital any day. She will be scanning you and the baby constantly to ensure that if anything goes wrong, she can get you the help you need quickly.
That’s comforting. I know things can go wrong, but my hips should be wide enough for our baby to come out without any trouble.
I’d hate to lose either one of you. Especially you because I’ve known you longer.
She smiled. No one bonds with their babies right away. Probably because we used to have such a high infant mortality rate.
Yeah, that would help. Perhaps it’s harder for me to bond to our baby because I’m not the one carrying her.
Probably.
She sighed. We do have some formula in case I can’t feed her enough.
Yes, we have some of that. We have plenty of cloth nappies too.
Yeah, and your mamma set up the nursery. I’m glad she did. I wouldn’t know what all to get right away. Knowing me, I’d forget something that could end up being very important.
Well, I’m glad she took care of those things. She is willing to stand by and offer help if we need it. Do you think we will?
She shrugged. Hard to say. I feel prepared and I should be able to pick her up and hold her steady after all the practice we’ve done with the robotic baby.
He smiled. Yeah, I feel I can feed our baby and change nappies without a problem now.
It won’t be exactly the same, but I think we have all the basic skills we need to start taking care of our baby now. I’m sure there will be some adjustments we’ll have to make after she’s here.
That’s probably true. I know the robotic baby is set to be random for the different scenarios we may have to deal with, but I doubt it covers everything. I think it was just designed to take care of the basics and then we can go from there.
"So, you feel ready for
