Dinno's Adventure And Other Tales - Mary-Ann Storm
Dinno’s Adventure
Dinno laughs as he splashes water at his brother using his trunk. The herd were all basking in the sun while enjoying the water at the same time.
He couldn’t hide his amusement once he noticed his brother was hiding behind their mother ,who was openly annoyed at Dinno, who was very pleased with himself at his attempts. He was now looking around and realized the grown-ups were very caught up in their conversations.
This was one opportunity he wasn’t going to miss. He knew he might never get an opportunity like this again. He made sure that no eyes were fixed on him as he slowly started to move away from the herd. Getting caught was not an option. He stole one last glance at the herd as he was about to enter the woods.
No one speaks about the woods. One thing they agree upon is the dangers that lurk in it, so everyone knows never to enter it. His little brother was shaking his head at him, letting him know that he mustn’t enter the woods. His eyes were huge and Dinno knew it was because he was scared for his sake.
He hesitated .
"Dinno, don’t stray ,stay close, it’s dangerous to just wander off. Once you’re bigger, you’ll understand!’’
These were the words his mother said to him on a regular basis.
The only problem was he really wanted to know what mysteries the woods held . There was no turning back now.
"Gmmmpf bigger! I am bigger,’’ he shouted angrily at himself for doubting himself when he was supposed to be beside himself with happiness.
He anxiously looked around him, fearing that his mother might appear at any moment in his excitement. He forgot to be cautious. Once it dawned on him that he was still alone, he rushed on , not wanting to get caught, his adventure still awaited.
"Where are you going little one?’’
Dinno almost shrieked out loud but soon realized the voice belonged to a bird who was sitting in a tree.
"I’m on my way to explore the woods’’ Dinno boasted proudly.
