For Calliope
Stars dance; skies move us
Weaving thought like Calliope
We measure your glimpse
Sandcastling our time here
Poetry a bridge we share.

Prologue
This is an abridged collection of my enigmatic, melancholic, and paradoxical poems or very short stories
that describe the emotional turbulence that we might have experienced during the coronavirus global pandemic, sequestered from family and friends worldwide. Some of them represent songs and tales of my past, others sang to me as I wrote them in the moment.
I’ve organized Turbulent Waves into eleven elements
or chapters, in this work. Each element underscores a potential emotional period we can and might experience under turbulent or changing conditions that potentially shape our experience.
If language is indeed a viral alkahest, one that can potentially metamorphosize how we structure thought, perhaps poetry is the vehicle that first opens the door to who we might eventually become. Like everything we bake, including friendships and lovers, tasting our words is like saying hello for the first time; it’s the sound of one hand clapping, and the echoes can follow us throughout time. I hope that you enjoy what I’ve cast upon these turbulent shores and that they open up new doors for you to experience
