They had discovered the planet quite by chance. A routine mission to their advance colonies had run into difficulties and searching for a planet with a tolerable atmosphere their scans had detected a small blue and green satellite circling the closest star to where they lay crippled. The crew had nursed their damaged ship into low orbit and scanned the surface looking for a landing site to initiate repairs. Life was detected, carbon based almost like their own. 'Distant cousins' it was decided, but as they observed from behind their cloak, they
