The Sojourner’s Road Home: A 40-Day Journey to the Heart of God
Author

Kelly Mack McCoy

Kelly Mack McCoy pursued a life-long dream of becoming an author after a life-altering event changed the trajectory of his life. He teamed up with author John Floyd Mills, a former writer with the San Antonio Light newspaper, to co-author a series of novels. The protagonist would be a trucker-turned-pastor-turned-trucker who sells everything to buy a new Peterbilt truck and hits the road after his wife’s death. The two never wrote the novels, however. John Floyd Mills went on to write his second novel alone. Kelly Mack McCoy continued with the trucker-turned-pastor-turned-trucker project on his own, but it took another life-changing event for him to be motivated to see the project through to completion. That event was the death of John Floyd Mills. The completed project would become the highly acclaimed novel Rough Way to the High Way. Rough Way to the High Way is a stand-alone novel, but a sequel was and is planned. However, when McCoy's world turned upside down during recent events, the road he traveled branched off in another direction, as did his writing journey. In Robert Frost’s best-known and most-loved poem, The Road Not Taken, two roads diverged before the traveler. The traveler (sojourner) stood and pondered the choice that lay before him. To continue his journey, he was forced to decide whether to travel one or the other. He chose the one less traveled. The road less traveled became a metaphor for the narrow road for this sojourner (McCoy). He chose to take it and remain on that road for the rest of his sojourn through this world. The inspiration for his second book, The Sojourner's Road Home, A 40-Day Journey to the Heart of God, came during a dark time for many. The book is a daily reminder that we are all sojourners in this life. Day 20, right in the middle of the 40-day journey, talks about detours or side trips we’ll take during our sojourn here. The Sojourner's Road Home became much more than a detour. McCoy needed that reminder during these difficult times and knew many of his fellow sojourners did as well. Kelly Mack McCoy lives in the beautiful Texas Hill Country with his lovely wife, Miss Emily, and his two Yorkies, Dixie and Dolly. Dixie is a fearless, huge dog trapped inside a tiny little dog’s body. Dolly, aka, Troublemaker, is afraid of her own shadow but rules the roost at home as the spoiled-rotten little sister to Dolly.

    The Sojourner’s Road Home

PRAISE FOR THE SOJOURNER’S ROAD HOME: A 40-DAY JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF GOD

Our everyday life often seems insignificant when, actually, everyday life is our spiritual journey where choices and perspectives matter most. In The Sojourner’s Road Home, author Kelly Mack McCoy delivers divine insight into the importance of the journey itself. Open these pages, and you will find the path to a closer walk with God.

    ~Lana McAra, best-selling, Christy Award-winning author of forty-plus books

The Sojourner’s Road Home causes us to reflect upon the spiritual battle raging all around us—a battle for our mind. The reason for this vicious and intense battle is that our minds are our greatest asset. When the things of the world cloud our minds, it becomes easy for us to feel lost and lose focus. We are unable to hear God, and so our sojourn here is without direction. We lose sight of what it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and struggle to find a way back to Him. The Sojourner’s Road Home will help you find your way back. When we trust in God, we are not aimlessly wandering through life. He has a plan for each of us. This world is not our home. Heaven is our home. Our journey leads us home to God.

~Ron Fraser, M.Div., BCPCC, president and CEO of TFC Global, and co-author of A Chaplain’s Heart

The Sojourner’s Road Home reinforces the true meaning in life that comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Readers (sojourners) are challenged to reflect upon each aspect of that relationship by measuring where they are in relation to what God has for them.

~Dr. Morris Isara, author of What Now, God? and founder of Shepherds Wellspring Ministries

The Sojourner’s Road Home is a superb devotional for travelers in the journey of life. Each day’s insights are shared in a down-to-earth tone mixed with thought-provoking questions and quick wit. You’ll find the stories relatable and interesting and the praise and prayer prompts on-target. Kelly Mack McCoy has written a 40-day roadmap to Home—a roadmap I can see myself perusing many times over.

~Brenda Blanchard, editor, author of No Greater Love: 40 Prayers of Preparation and Praise, and Light in the Darkness (release date Fall 2023)

The Sojourners Road Home is a great devotional to take with you wherever your journey leads you. The road we travel through this life can often become lonely and challenging when we miss the fellowship of others. But God the Holy Spirit is always present in our lives. He is our true traveling partner guiding our lives on the road home. As we travel the road of faith, we are assured we are not traveling alone. This forty-day journey to the heart of God reminds us of this truth and is an excellent resource for our life of faith.

~Timothy Jones, pastor, missionary, certified coach, speaker, and trainer. Founder of Go to the Truth Ministries

The Sojourner’s Road Home is an excellent resource for anyone new to the Christian faith who is struggling to figure out what the next steps in this journey are. Kelly Mack McCoy does an excellent job of laying out Biblical truth in a line-upon-line and precept-upon-precept manner. Even as an older Christian, I found much-needed reminders of truth that have given the importance of my faith a fresh perspective. The Sojourner’s Road Home will help solidify your faith and give you practical truths that can be put into practice daily. This is an easy-to-understand breakdown of the Christian life that is simple enough for a child to learn from, yet deep enough that the most experienced Christian should read it to gain an understanding of why we do what we do. If you have not read The Sojourner’s Road Home, what are you waiting for?

~Josh Rarrick, founder of IMPACT (Independent Missionary Pilots Association) Ministries 360

We all have stories to tell about our sojourn in this broken, dysfunctional world. We can choose to become a victim of the dysfunction, or we can be a victor. The Sojourner’s Road Home will help you find your way to the narrow road back Home and discover your journey’s purpose. Before you read the book, a spoiler alert: God wants you to be a victor! We met Kelly Mack McCoy divinely through mutual connections when we chose to leave our ‘normal’ lives behind and follow The Radical Road God had for us. One of the reasons for that divine encounter is that the author is also a ghostwriter who is writing our story for us in our upcoming book.

~Matt and Jess Pealer, The Radical Road Podcast, authors of Life is Never a Straight Line

An encouraging Bible devotional is like a good home-cooked meal for the soul. Kelly Mack McCoy serves weary travelers with nourishing and tasty meals in The Sojourner’s Road Home.

~Phillip Telfer, pastor, author, director of Media Talk 101, and founder of the Christian Worldview Film Festival

In The Sojourner’s Road Home, Kelly Mack McCoy redirects our focus to our journey’s road map—the Bible—and our internal GPS, The Holy Spirit, to keep us on the right path. His use of thought-provoking quotes and examples found in Scripture encourages us to continue the journey to the heart of God. That encouragement is found in every well-written day of the journey.

~Ron Smith, director of Business Development, Neighborhood Bridges

I truly believe that God speaks through us in so many ways. Using the words of Scripture, Kelly Mack McCoy writes simply yet profoundly and moves our hearts to listen to God’s voice and to trust in His word. Now is the time that God is calling on His people to come together in faith, and this beautiful
