Chapter 1: Playstation 1
The PlayStation first came about due to a joint venture between Sony and Nintendo in 1988. Sony was initially contracted to produce a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), but the deal fell through when Nintendo refused to give Sony control over the software. Undeterred, Sony decided to develop its own console, which would become known as the PlayStation.
The PlayStation 1 was first released in Japan on December 3, 1994, and in North America on September 9, 1995. The PS1 was a massive success, selling over 102 million units worldwide. It was the most popular video game console of its generation, and it helped to popularise 3D graphics in video games.
The PlayStation 1's CPU was a 32-bit RISC processor based on the MIPS R3000A architecture. It was clocked at 33.8688 MHz, which was relatively fast for the time. The PlayStation 1's GPU
