DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION ON
The iron may stop working due to various reasons, including: cable problems. These can be obvious to the naked eye, such as a cut or burn, or internal, caused by use itself. In the first case, the faults are solved with a few simple steps; If there are no visible signs, the iron can be disassembled to check, using a multimeter, if the cable has an internal fault.
Iron cord with cuts or burns
The reasons why an iron stops working are several, but one of the most frequent is problems with the wire. The damage can be visible to the naked eye -if it shows a cut, a burn, etc.- or internal, because the cable is subjected to many movements, bending and twisting while ironing and, although it is prepared to endure them, it is possible that it will be affected in the long term.
If the damage is visible, the error is corrected with a simple procedure. The first step is to cut the wire with a pliersat the place of failure. It must be taken into account that the so-called iron cable
contains three individual cables inside, called phase, neutral and ground, which allow the connection with the electric current. The fault can affect one, two or all three interior cables. The iron should work again once the piece of cable that caused the problem has been removed. Care must be taken to cut the external covering of the cable and expose the individual interior cables. After removing the damaged fragment, the individual cables that have been cut must be joined again; To do this, the plastic that covers them must be removed and only the metal filaments must be left, then the ends of these must be joined and, later, the union must be covered with insulating tape.
Once the three interior cables have been restored, it is also necessary to cover the external surface, that is, protect the iron cable with insulating tape. In this way, with the fragment of cable that was causing the problem removed, the iron should work again.
Internal fault in the iron cable
If the problem is internal, that is, if at first glance the cable has no anomaly, it is possible to verify if the problem is in the cable or if it is actually in the body of the device. For this, it is necessary to disassemble the iron and count,In addition, with a multimeter, also called a multimeter or tester, an instrument that allows you to measure currents and perform other electrical checks.
The exact procedure to disassemble the iron depends on each particular model, but in most cases you have to loosen some screws located on the back. With those screws removed, the cover should be removed, exposing the area where the cable joins the rest of the system. With the use of a multimeter, it is checked if the cable of the iron has experienced a short circuit.
The cable is attached to the body of the iron through the so-called connection strip, a small piece of plastic with an entry for the three individual cables already mentioned (phase, neutral and ground).
A first check is, indeed, the absence of damage to the connection strip. If it is burnt, it is likely that a short circuit has occurred, so it will be necessary to change it. However, it will be better for a specialist to check the device to discover the origin of the problem and thus be able to solve it.
remove the cord from the iron
If the terminal strip shows no signs of failure, the wires will need to be removed. To do this, the three screws that hold them are loosened and removed. An important fact: when mounting the iron, each cable must be connected to the same hole in the power strip. Due to this, it is essential to pay attention to the place that each one occupies and, in any case, write it down if you think it could lead to forgetfulness or confusion.
Once the cables have been removed, the multimeter will be used to verify that the three have no faults. When taking the measurement, it is convenient to move, flex and twist the cable a little. It's a way to make sure the cable is working well, since the problem can show up in certain positions and not in others.
If using the multimeter it is verified that the operation of the three individual cables is correct, it will be necessary to think of a problem outside the cable, inside the body of the iron.
The iron , generally, it is taken out of the closet when it is needed, it is used and it is put away again, without paying much attention to it. And it should be done, because its cleaning is essential: the dirt that accumulates on its surface, at some point, will end up on the clothes that are ironed.
Clean the iron to take care of clothes
The cleaning of the ironIt is essential for a simple reason: if your surface has dirt or impurities on it, there is a good chance that these will be transferred to your clothes. And the initial objective of leaving the garment as neat as possible will be replaced by its opposite: it will have to be washed again. An iron cannot be cleaned in any way. It is convenient to follow a series of precise steps to achieve optimal results.
A first recommendation is that, except in certain cases that are detailed below, whenever the iron is cleaned, it is unplugged and cold. Dark spots that form on the surface of the iron are removed with newspaper and coarse salt. The first signs of dirt that are usually detected on the surface of the iron are black or dark spots. These are removed by a very simple trick. On a smooth surface, such as a table or the floor, newspaper should be placed in quantity, until it forms a mattress
. A small layer of coarse salt is spread, the iron is plugged in and, when it is lukewarm, it is passed over the salt. In this way, much of the stains will be removed. Dirt that is not removed can be cleaned with a cloth.
Detergent and candles to clean the iron
In the event that the dirt is encrusted, the cleaning mode is also simple. In general, it is enough to wipe with a damp cloth with a little detergent. If preferred, a sponge can be used instead of a cloth, but it should be very soft so as not to scratch the surface of the iron. Once the impurities have been removed, the remains can be removed with a dry cloth. It is important not to use harsh or abrasive cleaners, as there is a risk of damaging the surface or interior of the appliance. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the iron. Another trick uses natural elements and is very effective in removing synthetic materials that have stuck to the surface. It is valid for steam irons, which are currently the majority in the market. The method consists of warming up the iron, disconnecting the steam outlet and rubbing a candle on its surface. In this way, the candle wax will clog the holes. After leaving it like this for a few minutes, it is cleaned
