About this ebook

THIS BOOK IS A STANDALONE from The Red Ink Rendezvous Collection.

"You're so flexible. I love that about you."
"All those years of ballet."
His ear tingled from her purring pout, ginger breath giving him more reasons to love her. "A ballerina? I should have known."

Thaddeus Kane and Georgette Remington are bestselling authors, signed to Write Way Books, the Black fiction imprint of big four publisher, Hartford House Press. Equally passionate about their writing endeavors, they delve into a steamy affair, and ultimately found a strong bond built on their creativity and forged through the passion of their pens.

While Georgette is obviously smitten by Thaddeus and Thaddeus is digging his newfound muse, they hesitate evolving their relationship, both feeling the insecurities that remain from past life heartbreak. They bob and weave, inside the ring of their love affair, each protecting their hearts from what is clearly a Love TKO.

When Thaddeus finally decides to knock Georgette off her feet with a proposal, Georgette has already made up her mind to step back from their relationship and they go their separate ways.

Time passes. They live their lives, building families, careers and their own personal empires. But what happens when Thaddeus unwittingly signs to Dominion Publishing, where Georgette is Chief Operating Officer with her husband Hiram Rivers serving as CEO? A racy, righteous reunion-rendezvous is what happens, bringing up repressed emotions, wayward wishes, deferred dreams, and unrealized regrets, a tumultuous journey that leads Thaddeus and Georgette down a path, into the final fight for love. Who will walk away with the title, Heavyweight Champion Of Her Heart? Who will be the Undisputed Captain Of Her Soul?

    Chapter One

    Past Life

    Jett Remington.

Jett Remington, birthright, Georgette Denise Remington, turned to see a tree of a Black man, all six foot, six inches of him. She stepped back two paces, closer to a high wooden table where a server was cleaning up empty plates and cups.

Hey. Too busy salivating, the 'hey' was all she had to offer.

The handsome tree filled in the blanks. I'm Thaddeus Kane. I'm new here, but I'm a big fan.

Oh, yes! I saw your name headlining the roster of newbies. She extended her hand and he held it in both his palms. She swooned at the warmth. Welcome to the fold.

    I thank you, Ms. Remington.

You can call me Georgette. I just gave him my name~name? What the... She admonished herself but would keep opening the way for him with each word he uttered and each gesture he made.

    Okay. Georgette.

Thaddeus reluctantly released her from his grip. Her softness guaranteed a good experience, wherever the acquaintance took them. He looked around the two-story terrace of The Lotus Leaf Bookstore, noting the conversational highs and lows of Write Way Books' author roster as they mixed and mingled. A few chiefs from the parent company, Hartford House, were present, a professional courtesy to the overseers of Write Way, one of Hartford's many imprints. Hartford usually sent representatives to the welcome party for Write Way's new authors. This is a nice spot.

She beamed a toothy smile. It is. Lotus Leaf is my home. They are so good to me here.

    Black owned?

    Absolutely.

Nice. Thaddeus picked up a glass of champagne from a silver platter toted by a waiter hovering in their midst. He dropped a ten-dollar bill on the tray.

Thanks, bro. The waiter dipped his head toward the newbie author.

Thaddeus dapped the young brother's free hand. My man. Don't work too hard.

Georgette beamed brighter, watching his soul brother monetary mannerisms. So, how long are you here?

Not sure. Just closed on a house not too far from here. Close to the park.

    Hamer Hill?

    Yes. That's the one.

So, you moved here for the book deal? Your advance was that hefty??

Ha ha. No. I just stepped out on faith. Paid off my house. Rented it. He chugged his champagne. Cashed out my 401k. Packed my bags. Balled out.

    Wait. 401k. From where?

Civil engineer with a government contractor.

Oh! Nice! She sat on a bar stool and placed an elbow on the high bar table, Thaddeus' profile becoming more interesting as the conversation continued.

Yeah. I'm thankful. One thing my daddy taught me was how to live below my means. I learned well. Saved my money.

Cheers to dad! Georgette toasted and sipped her bubbly.

Thaddeus raised his empty glass. The same waiter appeared, took the glass from his hand, and gave him and Georgette fresh pours.

My man. Thaddeus dropped a twenty-dollar bill on the silver tray. He leaned closer to the young man and whispered to him.

I gotchu, bro. The server gave Thaddeus an extended handshake and went on his way.

Thaddeus took a hearty swallow and savored the fizzle in his chest. I figured if I'm gonna do this writing thing, I gotta finance it... invest in it.

"True. Blood, sweat, money, and tears."

    Sho' ya right.

Georgette giggled at the Blackness of his reply. So, how long have you been here?

Not long. I was in DC.

    Chocolate City!

Yes. Chocolate City. He smiled at her excitement, sensing the alcohol magnified her enthusiasm.

"Well, Mr. Kane. Welcome to Seminole City, God's Black country. It is a kind of urban oasis. Black, strong, beautiful, prosperous. Very prosperous. Lotta money here."

    So I've heard.

Black money. Old and new. You will love it.

I already do. He flashed a flirtatious grin, admiring the bestselling author. Her bubbly eyes, luminous lashes and lean, wide-hipped physique curled the corners of his mouth.

Good. She blushed at his dynamite smile, slight frontal gap, all straight pearlies, sans one bottom tooth mildly crooked, a sexy imperfection to match the slight gap of the two fronts. A trim, thin mustache and goatee polished off his handsome face.

Will you be my tour guide?

Oh. Yes. Of course. With nervous fingers, she tugged a short black curl at the nape of her neck, calming the fever that surged through her body. All of her five feet, nine inches smoldered at his request. I would love to.

Right on. Let's start now. Thaddeus gave the party another once over.

    Right now?

Yeah. Why not? He winked. How long should we stay? What's appropriate?

Georgette glanced at her watch. It's 7:30 now. In about 10 more minutes, they will introduce the newbies.

    Introduce?

    Yeah. Nobody told you?

    No. Not a word.

"Well, there's your introduction to The Write Wrong Way. Pure niggery."

    Niggery? Ha ha ha!

She snickered with him, delighted by his laughter, honest and free. Yes. You will see. Since we are the little nigger imprint that could, we make it all happen on a lot less than the main house and other white imprints. So, some things get missed. We are a little rough around the edges.

Aw, hell. Here we go. More of the same corporate racism bullshit.

You got it, brother. Georgette slapped his broad shoulder with a chummy palm. He was a Titan about the shoulders yet long and lean the rest of the way down to his toes. No gettin' around it.

Thankfully, I'm well versed. Thaddeus polished off his champagne. Okay, so after the intros...

We can leave. After folks swarm you. Skin. Grin. Then... we exit!

Good. Got it. Sounds like 9pm?

    Yes. Right around, she confirmed.

Okay, Ms. Remington. Meet me at the exit, 9 pm.

    See you there.

    &

Georgette was spot on with the timing of the night's agenda. After the last honeybee swarmed her best buzz effect around Thaddeus, he said his goodbyes and strode to the front door of The Lotus Leaf. Georgette stood waiting. Her silky fineness titillated his groin.

She played a mandate over and over in her head as the long, lean caramel Watusi Warrior with the shoulders of God drew near. You will keep your clothes on. You will keep your clothes on. You will keep your clothes on. Whew. She patted her chest to smooth out her breathing.

Thaddeus interrupted her self-coaching. You had that timing down to the second!

I've done enough of these things to know. He stared at her and licked his lips. She blushed. I will go get my car.

    Yes.

I pull up. You hop in.

I'm ready. He shook a bottle of champagne.

Oh. Okay. I see you. How much did you give baby boy for the spirits?

    Just enough. He winked.

She smiled. I'll be right back.

Mildly intoxicated he salivated as she tipped out the door, her derriere a physical anomaly, bouncing on her lean body and giving him a reel of erotic visions.

Hmph. Girl. And brains too. Sssss. Help me, Lawd.

By the time he finished fantasizing and murmuring her praises, she pulled up in a Benz truck. He said goodbye to some of their colleagues who were still mingling in the vestibule and hopped inside.

Nice ride. He closed the door and adjusted the seat to accommodate his legs.

Thanks. It has to be for the price tag.

No doubt. He relaxed in the seat. So, where are we goin', Ms. Remington? Thaddeus placed the bag of champagne, flutes, and a box of tapas that the server packed for them on the floor between his feet.

Just buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Oh okay, Thaddeus guffawed, dropping his buttery, brown-skinned jaw in a humorous smirk, bucking his deep-set eyes, full of intense curiosity, the kind bestowed upon children at birth that turns them into scientists. He wrinkled his furry brow and obeyed her order. He enjoyed the ride, seeing some things familiar and unfamiliar, uninterrupted by having to navigate the traffic. He hated driving so he relished the passenger seat view of Seminole City Boulevard, its oak trees and sunflowers waving at them as they drove by. Business after business, clean and pristine home after home, many modest, others elaborate and ornate, came together to create a hodgepodge of Black success, so sweet, so divine.

    No homelessness here? he asked.

Very little. And those that are, live like royalty in the villas and condos setup for them.

    Word?

Oh yes. No raggedy shelters here. No piecemealed dwellings. All immaculately maintained homes.

    Wow.

"The budget for struggling families is written into the Seminole City charter. It has to be there, or the politicians would be breaking
