About this ebook

THIS BOOK IS A STANDALONE fromThe Red Ink Rendezvous Collection.

Hiram Rivers, CEO of Dominion Publishing, the number one publisher of Black fiction books, has a new protégé, Kendali Grace. Kendali, with Hiram's guidance and his wife and business partner, Georgette's influence, is becoming an overnight sensation as she pens tales of her experiences as a video vixen in the hip hop/R&B music industry. Her collection of stories, The Vixen Notebook, is selling off the shelves, and she is enjoying celebrity star status beyond her wildest dreams.

Dre Walker is Kendali's oh- so-fine, hard-working, ambitious fiancé, loving and loyal to her, the consummate ride or die. They have made plans for a long lasting lifetime together, but Hiram Rivers wants what he wants and after careful contemplation, he has decided he wants to conquer Kendali Grace, the gorgeous statuesque Clydesdale of Amazonian beauty.

After a few fleeting dalliances with Kendali, Hiram left her alone, but she is a magnet for the book-selling mogul, and he can no longer resist. He woos her and pursues her, but what happens to his own home life as he gets whipped into a wild affair with Kendali? What happens to Dre and Kendali and all their future plans? Do they get to decide where their hearts will end up or will the Fairies of Fate have the final say?

    Chapter One

    Fuck It

    Hey. How is everything?

Everything is everything, she replied, sipping from her water bottle. She had no interest in talking to the older dude, even though he was bold, handsome, and athletically built like she liked them. She just wasn't in the mood.

Have you learned anything? His lightly salted goatee shimmered expensive beard oil under the fluorescent lights of the convention center hall.

Yeah. I need to step my game up.

Well, that's good information, he said, watching her thumb through a sci-fi novel. You like sci-fi?

    Sometimes.

I take it you’re a writer? he guessed, observing her event badge.

    Yes.

    Have you published anything?

    Yes.

    You are self-publishing?

She blew an impatient breath, annoyed by his questions. Uh, yeah.

What's the name of your book?

    The Vixen Notebook.

    Hmm. That sounds real interesting.

    It is.

    Well, how are your sales?

    Okay.

Her indifferent attitude exhausted him. No wonder her sales were ‘okay’.

Here’s my card. When you're ready to sell some books, hit me up.

She reluctantly accepted the card and he left.

Kendali Grace arrived home, parked her book publishing expo travel cases at the door, and tumbled onto the couch.

Hey, babe. Dre Walker, her hard working, ambitious lover appeared from the kitchen, chef's hat on head and apron wrapped around his chiseled gingerbread torso. He kissed her. How'd it go?

Usual madness. Lots of predators in the literary world. Gave me flashbacks of the music scene. I hate these damn expos. Her eyes watered. I'm so tired, Dre.

I know, Dali Doll.  He sat next to her and cradled her in his arms. But it's going to work out. Patience, grasshopper.

Yeah. Patience. She nestled her head on his chest. Everybody so damn shady. She looked up at him. Wish you were there.

I know, but you know I gotta get our ends. Takes moolah to build business. He kissed her nose. Yours and mine.

My hero. She climbed up the mountain named Dre and kissed him passionately. While he slid out of his sweats, she pulled her dress over her head.

    Yeah. Your hero.

Dre's wand found her pussy fast. They fucked a quickie on the couch and rocked each other inside their climax.

Kendali, holding her mounted position on Dre's lap, hugged her fiancé and he pecked her breasts.

    What'd you cook? she asked.

    One of your favorites. Meatballs.

You know how to love me.

You know I do. I'ma make subs and salads.

Ooo yes! I love you, Dre.

    I love you, Dali Doll.

A few days later, Hiram Rivers searched for Lil Ms. Lightweight Rude's book on Muse.com, the biggest online book retailer in the country. He skimmed the sample. The Vixen Notebook... Kendali Grace. His dick hardened, thinking about the potential of what he read.

Kendali Grace. He wondered about the proper pronunciation of her name. He mumbled the possibilities. KEN-dali. Or is it ken DAHL-e. Or KEN-de-lee..  He had already decided he would call her Kenni or Grace. Flipping through the sample revealed a fictionalized account of her life as a hip hop video vixen. He wanted to find her, but he knew she would find him once she realized he was Hiram Rivers, CEO of Dominion Publishing, the number one publisher of Black fiction books. He definitely wasn't chasing after no cut rate writer with a nasty disposition.

Sure enough, a few days after he sampled her book, Kendali called. He didn't answer. She left a voicemail, then a text, then an email. Hiram let her do three rounds of voicemails, texts, and emails before he responded. Meanwhile, he bought a copy of The Vixen Notebook and read every word twice over a two-day period. It was a publisher's dream book, a surefire money maker. On the third day, after a full afternoon of reigning over his Dominion empire, which occupied the entire thirteenth floor of The Cartwright Building, prime Seminole City real estate, he swiveled his throne around to face the setting sun, a panoramic view fit for a publishing emperor. Feet propped up on an ottoman, body relaxed, he sent Kendali a text.

    Text Message

    Hiram: How is everything?

Kendali: OMG! I am so glad you texted me. Can you talk?

He snickered, typing an arrogant response in his customary cavalier tone.

Hiram: I can. I've been doing it since I was about 6 months old. Full sentences according to my mama.

Kendali: Ha ha. okay. I deserve that. I wasn't very nice to you at the expo

Hiram: Are you always like that? Gotta switch that up if you wanna sell books babe

Kendali: I'm not. Just a bad day at the expo. It's so hard to sell one little book. I mean hard, like impossible

Hiram: I know. But you got a real gold mine on your hands. I know we will sell a whole lotta books!

    Kendali: Really? You think so?

    Hiram: No doubt

Kendali: So what do I do?

    Hiram: Meet me for dinner

Uh oh. Kendali's guard shot straight up, 12 o' clock. She thought about the potential outcomes. Dominion Publishing was making big bank for plenty of authors, but dinner? Sitting in the dining room of the townhouse she shared with Dre, she tapped
