I believe in pursuing dreams and making them a reality. I have always been a creative person, whether it is crafts or some other form of art. Writing is just another creative outlet. I am a single mother of two wonderful kids, and two fur babies. I live in the Midwest. My passions are coffee, animals and books. When I am not reading or writing, I can be found playing softball with my daughter, gardening, or enjoying the outdoors.

    Chapter one

    bone

Welcome back! I bet you are wondering how our road trip from Arkansas to Illinois went. Have you ever been on a road trip before? OMG I never want to sit in a car that long again! Not only is it boring, but we were all cramped up in that back seat!

Picture the car fully loaded; seat to ceiling with stuff, and then me, Jax and Lindsey in the back seat. We also had to deal with Lindsey’s whining on top of it. We had to sit still with nothing to do! You would think Mom would have given us toys to play with or bones to chew, anything would have been good. I got so bored at one point I started licking the windows. Mom was not happy.

We started our trip early in the morning when it was still dark outside, and it was kind of scary. Jax and I were buckled up in the back seat. Yes, there are seat belts for dogs. Safety first! Lindsey sat in the back with us to help us feel secure. I could feel the nervous energy coming off everyone in the car and there was just a hint of excitement. Mom was kind of stressed too. We were driving through a lot of trees, it was pitch black and we were on a winding road.

I heard Mom tell Lindsey that she is freaking out about hitting a deer. You know what they told us in school? Lindsey replies to her mom. That the reason so many deer get hit by cars at night is because the deer are attracted to the headlights of cars." She smiles a little after spouting off her fact, appearing very proud of herself.

Mom whisper yells, Lindsey, that isn’t helping me! Her shoulders shake as she lets out a long breath.

We see the sun start to rise above the mountains. It is one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my six months. Have you ever seen the sun rise in the morning? There is the dark of the horizon and then just above it, the yellows, oranges and pinks of the sun peeking over.

Mom breathes a sigh of relief, turns up the music and starts dancing while driving. The car is calm, the music loud and the mood is happy. Jax, Lindsey and I fall asleep.

When we all woke up we stopped for gas, got a drink of water and took a bathroom break. It feels weird because Jax and I must go potty while still attached to our leashes. Normally, Mom would just open the door to the house and just let us go outside in the yard. I have to say it was a little stressful. It took me a while before I was able to relax and go. Mom and Lindsey took turns using the bathroom too. Once everyone was done we load up and are off again.

I guess we are on our way to get Grandma. I heard Lindsey and Mom talking about picking Grandma up at the airport to keep Mom company on the drive and to be there to drive if Mom gets tired. This gets me very excited; I’ve never met Grandma before. I have heard them talking about her and seen her face on the computer when they were video chatting. Lindsey seems very excited too. She was saying earlier how it has been months since she saw Grandma and was very happy to be living near family again. I guess our family lives in Illinois. I didn’t know that until recently. I know my birth family still lives in Arkansas. Mom did show me pictures of them on Facebook and everyone is getting so big. Mom says I am too, but I don’t see it. I am just a lapdog; I am six months old now.

I heard Mom say she is grateful to be living by family again. She was so lonely in Arkansas without her family and friends. I see a sad look pass over Mom’s face and then it disappears. She starts talking about all the fun things we are going to do when we get there, and about the pretty colors the leaves are going to change into. It sounds like magic to me.

    Chapter two

    bone

Well, when we arrived at the airport the first thing we needed to do was find the terminal Grandma was located at; there were so many different airlines, lanes and turn offs. Who designed this madness?

We finally located the sign that says where to go and head in that direction. We start looking for Grandma. That was not an easy task. We circle the airport and there are people everywhere, lined up in cars and standing on the sidewalk. We are just about to make another loop around when we spot Grandma on the sidewalk so Mom pulls over to the curb. She gets in the car and I try so hard to bust out of my seat belt to get to
