About this ebook

"You know this is, by far, the worst interview I've ever done," I confess. "You're either a fucking amazing chef or just a cocky bastard who's wasting my time."

"Those two aren't mutually exclusive, you know," Viktor chuckles as he places his arms against the desk, leaning towards me with a smirk. "Anyway, let me show you just what I can do."

    Chapter 1

Ihad read and re-read the notice of eviction in my hand for the past hour now. For some reason, I still couldn't comprehend it. I knew breaking up with Jordan would bite me in the ass in some way or another, but I didn't think it would be like this.

Having a relationship with your landlord is pretty fucking awesome. Not only does your rental have priority but when certain situations arise, like your grandma's hospital bills, missing out on a few payments isn't that big of a deal. Like I said, pretty fucking awesome but that quickly changes if you break up with said landlord.

The funny thing about all of this is that I wasn't even the reason for our breakup. He was the one who cheated on me. I was just smart enough to catch him. The breakup was fine as far as breakups go. Not being one to get attached, and I didn't see our relationship heading anywhere long-term, it was fairly easy to tell him I was done. Jordan on the other hand, despite his infidelity, was not happy about it.

I just thought he wouldn't be such an asshole and drive my business into a corner. He knew I was five months behind on rent, but always told me it was all right. Keyword: was. Now, being late on rent for my apartment wasn't such a big deal. But, I also have to deal with the rent for a one-story building in the city - my beloved restaurant. It's easily the best location for an eatery on the block, and the amount it costs me each month is a stark reminder. …Let's just say it all begins to quickly add up. Unfortunately for me, now that we've broken up, Jordan refuses to settle for anything but the total price of what I owe for the apartment and the restaurant.

How the fuck am I going to come up with that kind of money in a month?!

Sure, the restaurant is bustling with guests each day. I'd even say it's started to thrive … but the profit isn't completely mine to pocket. Like all new startups, even though we're doing well, I still have to pay my staff, utility bills, and I'm constantly reinvesting my earnings into food and beverages. Plus, more recently, my grandma's bills have started eating away at my savings and income. For the first time in my life I actually think I'm in too deep. I don't see a way out of this debt…

Letting out a tired sigh, I put down Jordan's notice letter on the table. Staring bitterly at it and thinking of how much of an asshat Jordan is wasn't going to do me any good. I knew what the problem was. What I needed now was a solution!

Louis? Are you busy? I hear one of my chef's voices through the door, followed by a couple of timid knocks.

    Come in.

The door opened to reveal Jane, my head chef. She has always been great. She took it upon herself to revise many of my recipes, subsequently elevating my restaurant to its much tastier menu. On top of that, she was skilled in interior design, and having her input helped to elevate my restaurant to its current, much classier look. Basically, Jane is heaven-sent.

With a fleeting gaze, Jane gave me a soft, nervous smile before sitting down in the chair across from my office desk. Immediately, I feel my stomach drop at the odd look on her face.

She looks guilty and I already had an idea why.

Hey Louis, she said, trying to sound cheerful. Jordan told me what happened. I'm so sorry to hear about it. But, unfortunately I -

    - Jane, I cut her off. Don't. Not now. He's already done so much damage. I can't lose you too.

Jane frowns as she lowers her head. I knew I was asking a lot of her. I couldn't quite blame her for what she was doing. She owed Jordan and had known him far longer than I have. If it was a test of loyalty, Jordan would be the winner hands down.

I'm sorry, Louis. Jordan thought it would be detrimental to my livelihood if I continued working here. He told me about all the debt you owe, and how he doesn't believe you'll come up with the rent in time. He said he's ready to shut the place down in a month. I feel so bad -

    - You know he's just doing this to get back at me, right? I cut her off. "He was
