Irfan Alam
Irfan Alam hails from the valley of Jammu and Kashmir, India. But he lives in a world where we think, dream, bring new stories, reflect, and evolve. He also sees this dusty world merely as an imagination, a fantasy, or a great illusion. To see through the eyes of this world is to get distracted, while through one’s inner eye, we can see the mystery of mysteries and explore undiscovered realities. Burning Embers, in essence, is a great exploration of his thoughts, emotions and feelings for one’s beloved. It is the soul's yearning to return to God.

Burning Embers - Irfan Alam
The Search for Love
OrnYearn for the beloved and search for love.
Every tree, every plant, and everything that grows,
says the truth, you harvest what you sow.
This life is like a bubble of rain.
Don’t plant anything but this love.
Be free of possessing things
that involve you in greed and lust.
As a person of love, be free of all of this,
except the presence of love.
Love is all you have, and love is all
you need – before and after.
Without love, what is the meaning
of this game called life?
It plays you every time, like a chessboard,
Checkmate here, Checkmate there.
Someone asks: what is this love?
Love is an expression without words.
It is a language with no rules of grammar.
It is this silence, at times with an ocean inside.
Look at the other side of life:
There is nothing that isn’t love.
How can you breathe without love?
Love is a reed flute that plays different notes.
Some are sweet, some are sad,
others drown us in tears.
Listen to these notes, listen!
Hear these secret messages:
They bind us together in love.
So, find this love in deep silence.
This Love
OrnThere are no words to explain,
no tongue to speak,
no face to describe, no heart to feel,
no sound sweeter than anything –
except this love.
There is no treasure greater than love.
No hidden secret other than love itself.
Be sober, be patient. Wait.
See what love can do.
Walk the road with truth and humility
Love will take you there, giving you wings.
Love is the soul’s light,
the taste of the morning.
Love is free of being, no me, no we.
Love cannot be said.
Love is absolute silence.
Listen to the reed flute, and what it says.
Hear the tune, give an ear.
It sings of its long separation from the reed.
Bear this separation and find the way.
Fall in love in such a way
that frees you from any connections.
Love is to be in this absence of the other,
while being present in the One.
So understand this Love and Oneness.
Everything Is You
OrnYou are everything to me
O, Beloved! My Friend!
You are the soul, the universe,
and all that animates the universe.
Entering the garden of roses and flowers,
I take the sweet fragrance
of these rose buds.
Why should I count the thorns there?
All I need is to submit my will,
be patient, and wait.
The Nightingale sings the early morning song,
dancing and singing in delight and joy,
whirling like the moving stars,
and the circling galaxy.
You are my words in a great silence,
the answer to these questions
when the heart says something.
You breathe into me and my soul
