D ance for me, Freyja’s daughter.

Magni’s commanding voice caught Astrid unaware, causing her stomach to jump. His cobalt eyes sparkled with mischief.

She hadn’t expected the request. Odin wouldn’t have asked for a demonstration of the Dance of Revelation before granting his blessing for the festivities.

Again, she had to remind herself, Odin was no longer King of Asgaard. Odin was dead.

The realm still mourned his loss.

Magni, Odin’s grandson now sat on throne of Asgaard. Tall, broad-shouldered, and incredibly handsome, a smile played across his usually stern visage. He lounged back on the golden throne and raised an eyebrow, nodding toward Astrid in challenge.

So be it, Son of Thor.

The Golden City was rich in Nornish magic, and it took no effort at all to draw the power needed for the enchanted dance. With a wave of her hand, Astrid caused the smoldering fire pit in the center of the great hall to blaze hot and high. The gathered throng of Norse deities backed toward the walls, clearing the center of the room. Astrid dropped her cloak to reveal the gauzy translucent gown she’d worn, just in case she received this request.

Her mother had warned her. Magni has resisted attending our festivals in the past. He may need some coaxing. Best to prepare for anything.

Astrid conjured a shimmering veil of stars around her form that caused King Magni’s jaw to drop.

    Good.

Drawing confidence from Magni’s sudden dumbfounded stare and quick swallow, she launched into the Dance of Revelation. Twirling and leaping, the great fire lit her silhouette through the gown and magical veil. The sounds of bukkehorn, giga, and hardingfele erupted around her, filling the chamber with a sultry melody.

Do I dare actually entice the King? It wouldn’t really be her he saw. She wondered whose image the dance would reveal to him. Which goddess had the capacity to win the heart of the King of Asgaard for all time?

Though she’d lived her entire three-hundred-year existence in the Golden City, she’d encountered Magni rarely, and never in such a formal setting. Now, because of the war, retirements of the elder gods, and the death of Odin, he’d become her King, the ruling monarch of Asgaard.

Everyone agreed it was a good choice for the Golden Realm. He was the eldest son of Thor and Sif, the grandson of Odin. His lineage spoke of power, intelligence, and great wisdom. While older, having appeared in some of the old legends, Magni had remained unattached and eligible even after the Norse gods became mythical.

As the son of the strong fertility goddess, Sif, Magni would have innate resistances to any spells woven from the fertility spectrum. Was this a test of Astrid’s powers of persuasion? Could her dance even affect such a powerful being?

Still, he had challenged her to dance for him.

Astrid released the Nornish pheromones, casting them narrowly, as to not affect the others in the room. She’d save that array for the festival.

She twirled toward Magni, close enough to touch him if she so desired, trailing the mystic particles in her wake to wash over the King as she passed.

    Curiously, she did find
