    Introduction

    I created the Schoch Protocol (which is my last name, pronounced shock) and wrote this book to share what I observed, researched, and experienced over the course of my struggle with what has come to be known as Long Covid.

    These pages describe a very thorough process that enabled me to heal completely from Long Covid. This book reflects my hypothesis of what Long Covid is, and posits how this protocol thoroughly and rapidly eliminated all my Long Covid symptoms and syndromes.

    Long Covid, or Post-Covid Syndrome, is a set of symptoms that have some variance person-to-person. People who have it are sometimes called Long Haulers. Its clinical name is Post-Acute Sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection, or PASC.

    People with Long Covid typically experience various combinations of the following symptoms: brain fog, chronic fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, racing heart, chest pains, gastrointestinal problems, depression, anxiety, dental problems, diabetes, hair loss, loss of smell and taste, strep throat-like symptoms, and many others.

    My hypothesis is that the root cause of Long Covid is a malfunctioning immune system (caused by Covid damage, a compromised gut microbiome, and an unresolved chronic stress ‘fight-or-flight response’) that enables the Covid RNA S1 Spike and Nucleocapsid Proteins to persist in the body weeks, months and even years after the initial Covid-19 infection has gone. This often causes an overreactive immune response, autoantibodies and fibrin amyloid microclots, which typically results in autoimmune-like symptoms, hyperinflammation, and serious injuries to the body, brain and organs.

    According to ongoing research, traces of these Covid-19 virus proteins likely remain in the body’s biofilms, brain, sinuses, ovaries, lymph nodes and gut microbiome post-infection. It is probable that these virus remnants trigger the body’s immune system to overreact especially when over-exerting or over-stressed. This releases a storm of cytokines, chemokines, histamines, fractalkines, etc., causing full-body hyper-inflammation and many Long Covid symptoms. This tends to target the body’s weaker or more susceptible areas that have either experienced previous disease or injury.

    Additionally, women are afflicted by Long Covid at twice the rate as men. A new study from the DNA company 23andMe® found that a history of depression or anxiety was associated with more than a two-fold increase in the risk of being diagnosed with Long Covid. This could be another clue that a damaged gut microbiome could be a major risk factor in causing Long Covid. It is very possible that an unhealthy gut microbiome plays a big role in depression and anxiety, in addition to weakening the immune system.

    As of today, June 19, 2023, there is no official medical consensus on how to heal people with Long Covid. In other words, there is nothing conventional doctors can medically or pharmaceutically provide or prescribe that is available to completely remedy Long Covid. All doctors can currently recommend is a low-histamine diet, some antihistamine drugs, beta-blockers, steroids, antidepressants, anti-clotting agents, getting plenty of rest and sleep, and avoiding overexertion and stress. One drug, Paxlovid™, has helped some people reduce Long Covid symptoms, but does not appear to eliminate Long Covid completely.

    Some videos, websites and even a few doctors have recommended the antiparasitic pharmaceutical drugs Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine to address Long Covid. But after more than three years of testing and research, there are no credible studies that show these drugs to be effective in completely curing Long Covid.

    It is now believed that a significant number of people who were infected with Covid-19 have lingering effects, from loss of taste and smell to severe disability. It is possible that over 50% of people who have had Covid-19 are either completely disabled or unable to fully function in life (work, school). That could mean that over 25 million Americans and 150 million people worldwide are affected long-term by Long Covid.

    I was one of those who was disabled on and off for ten months with bad headaches, chest pains, racing heart, severe exhaustion, hair loss, terrible brain fog, insomnia, deep depression, and a burning sensation in my lungs.

    I was infected with Covid-19 in November of 2020, and Long Covid started in January of 2021 before any vaccines were available. I had the full Moderna vaccinations in March and April of 2021, and a Moderna vaccine booster on 12/21/2021. But none of these had any noticeable effect on my Long Covid condition.

    I spent months of trial and error, combed through mountains of research on the topic using the National Institute of Health (NIH)’s PubMed and NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) library, and participated in numerous Long Covid forums. Through this combination of strategies, I was able to discover lifestyle changes and a combination of research-based medicinal plants, mushrooms and supplements that allowed me to function somewhat again, and later to eliminate the Covid virus protein remnants completely, which all of my work tells me is the underlying root cause of Long Covid.

    I finished the protocol on December 15, 2021, which completely eliminated all my Long Covid symptoms, and allowed me to exert myself again with no flare-ups or relapse. But it took several more months for my body to heal from the wear-and-tear injuries that Covid and Long Covid caused, and to recondition my body and brain from lack of exercise and stimulation for so many months.

    I am not a medical professional or a doctor. I’m just a highly intuitive science-oriented problem-solver who suffered from Long Covid for almost a year and who was determined to get better no matter what.

    Finally, Long Covid affects people in different ways. What has worked to eliminate it for me may not work for everyone. But I believe it can help people afflicted by Long Covid.

    I filed a patent for the Schoch Protocol in hopes of preventing large pharmaceutical or supplement companies from stealing this protocol and either suppressing it, or using it to dominate the market and price-gouge people who want to fully recover from Long Covid. So, the Schoch Protocol is patent pending.

    Section One:

    My Covid-19 Experience

    I have been healthy and active all my adult life. Pre-Covid, I walked three miles a day, went to the gym, and rode my bicycle several times a week. I ate a very healthy Mediterranean-based diet. And while I would get the occasional colds with runny nose and sore throat, I hadn’t experienced the flu in about 30-plus years. In other words, I am a healthy person with a naturally strong immune system.

    A few days before Thanksgiving in 2020, before any vaccines were available, my 27-year-old son, who was staying with us during the pandemic, said he was not feeling well and started coughing a bit. Within 2 days, my wife and I were beginning to feel the symptoms of Covid.

    We all tested positive for the Covid-19 infection.

    The next nine days were brutal, with severe pressure and pain in my chest, massive headaches, random shooting pains throughout my body, and feeling lousy overall. My wife had similar symptoms.

    Having Covid was difficult. I had never been so physically stressed in my life. At times, it felt like a 300 lb. person was sitting on my chest. My heart was racing and my heart was pounding so loud I could hear it in my head. It was difficult to sleep. The bad headaches were nonstop and no over-the-counter pain medications would relieve them. I never had a high fever, just a slight temperature of 99.1 and a very light cough. We took it day-by-day. I didn’t know if it was going to get worse—or if I was going to have a heart attack.

    While we were sick, we took supplements and drugs that were at that time being recommended while going through Covid. These were: Pepcid AC, Zyrtec, melatonin, aspirin, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, and quercetin.
