When the 'Gator Brings Love - Raquel Anne

    Chapter One

A black silhouette of a crocodile Description automatically generated with medium confidence

He picked up the lemons that Fate had sent him and started a lemonade-stand. The original life and lemons quote from Elbert Hubbard. I had attempted to live by those words, always finding the positive in every negative situation. I had been a perpetually optimistic person, almost annoyingly so. But when I woke up to find myself in a hospital bed all because of a deadly alligator torpedo, I found it really difficult to find a way to make lemonade.

That’s right. An alligator torpedo! Over three feet of razor sharp teeth flying through the drive-thru window at my work. Why would this happen? How even? I’ll tell you one thing. Do not, under any circumstances, date a psycho who just so happens to be obsessed with wild animal documentaries and learned how to properly handle dangerous animals simply to play pranks on his so-called friends.

I slumped down further into the bed, wishing I could just disappear into it. I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t really even understand why I had to stay. My face was injured and my pride had taken a severe beating, but no part of this situation required an overnight camp out where it smelled like saline and bleach.

Down the hall, I could hear my mother’s voice echoing loudly off the walls as she chattered. I closed my eyes, hoping that it would look like I’d fallen asleep. My mother burst into the room still chattering away frantically, her words coming so fast I couldn’t decipher what she was going on about. It wouldn’t have mattered if I had honestly fallen asleep. With evident displeasure, I opened my eyes and sat back up glaring at the back of my mother’s head. I had barely even noticed the other body in the room.

"Ms. Segers, I appreciate your concern regarding my daily vegetable intake,
