MY RETIREMENT FROM WORK WAS approaching several years ago. But it seems that my retirement time is so behind. The age of paper has expired. But the responsibility has not expired now. I don’t have time to rest. When I am employed by this company. Then I have a day off, holy days. I used to get vacation. I used to visit different places in the country. My life was free from stress, when I returned home from my work. I took a shower, eat my dinner. And I used to get sound sleep. My classmate, my former co- workers friend, is retired now. When they are retired from the job. Then I’m involved with a big responsibility. The company has to maintain myself.

It would be wrong to say that I didn’t get a chance. I had to get a big loss to take a little rest. I had to stay awake. If I was absent from the office in a day. Next day lots of files and work deposits were on the table. A lot of important tasks are pending for me. When I reached the office, A lot of work pressure made me impatient. I don’t have time to take a break. Reluctance to give responsibility to someone. I don’t know what wrong would be made! A doubt remains in mind. A malaise continues to work in the mind. I can’t sleep peacefully. Because I have faced this problem many times. I have to lose the business. My heart and soul tried to release me from the work. But one work after another is entangling me like a snake.

It is not that there is no joy in work. This joy is extremely different. Many people work under me. They respect me enough. People earn their living by working here. Their children are raised depending on this income. They work here and I give them their due. I provide them all the facilities, as per the company rules. There is more joy in giving than receiving. When I was an employee. Then I didn’t understand it. I wouldn’t have understood, if I wasn’t where I am today. Being sympathetic to people, and giving something is enjoyable. If there is no desire to get it back. I chased after money a lot. Today my money, house, car, factory is all done. But I didn’t think about retirement.

Everyone is busy with centering their own territory. We are constantly running into an attraction. At the end of the day we are returning home after work. We are cycling by coming and going. The session is gradually cycling. The summer, Rain, Autumn, Late Autumn, winter and spring. The season’s come and show their glory and depart again. How many different forms are revealed in nature? No one remembers it, no one does. The humming noise of the machine, and the busyness of work made me anxious. I understand human needs don’t end in life. I wanted to get some relief from the monotony of life. I began to recall some memories of the day. I gave all responsibilities to my son Sanbheer, and the general manager. I explained the responsibility to my son. Later I left for the village with my wife.

When I reached my village. It was just morning. I went to the Aloka’s house. Because my house Haru keeps the door key to Aloka. The people of the village are starting to wake up. Hearing about my arrival, the villagers started to come. It is like organizing a festival around my arrival. It seemed that the sheltered boy of the day had become the guardian of all. Some teenage boys were seeking shelter from me. The sun had started to shine all around. A gentle spring breeze is blowing. Springtime prevails in nature. The charming weather is all over the country. But I was fleeing very gloomy at the moment. A group of unknown faces are around me. I heard from them. Many of those with whom I used to play are no longer alive today. All of them are under teenagers. They are very curious to see me. All of them know me. But I don’t know their identity at all. I left the village before they were born. They heard my name from their parents.

The villagers never call senior people by name. They believe it is disrespectful to call by the name of senior people. They are called senior people by relation. So some call me Pisha, some one Mama and some one Kaka (Father’s sister’s husband is called Pisha, mother’s brother is called Mama, Father’s younger brother is called kaka. Elder sister or sister related girls are called Didi and older brother or brother related men are called Dada) When they tell their father’s name. Then I was able to recognize the boys and their family.

In the meantime Aloka came outside of the house. I went directly to Aloka’s house. Because Haru keeps my house key to Aloka. If he goes to an emergency visit somewhere else. She was very excited to see me. She called my name Shomen, how are you? Please come inside the house? When Aloka calls me in an orderly manner by my name. I thought I was still the little one back then. After so many days, her call mixed with love and discipline charmed me. Her call was sweeter than honey and started ringing in the ears. I forgot, I’m a big boss in my office. I went into the room like a little boy without hesitation. My wife followed me without saying a word. How people bow down to me in the office and factory. But I bowed down to Aloka in devotion and respect. What a strange life people really have. No matter how powerful or rich a person is! Somewhere he is very big. And somewhere he remains a very small person.

Aloka asked us to come clean from the birth room. After I finished the birth room work, I went back to my room. Chitra went to shower. Aloka brought the breakfast for us. But Chitra is still in the shower room. Aloka said, Shomen, you take your breakfast. When Chitra finishes her shower. We will eat together. We started to eat our breakfast. After finishing our breakfast. We were taking some rest. The neighbors came to see me, then I went out without rest. Chitra liked to stay at home. So I was left alone with them.

Went Out for the Evening Walk

I FELT BORED SITTING IN the house. So I came out from our house to visit the surrounding area. A young man appeared to us. He looks like thirty to thirty five years older. The man told us good afternoon with great respect. Before I asked for his identification. The young man was starting to tell his identity. The young man’s name is Ratan. He is the eldest son of Rasu. The reader will know about Rasu later. Rasu came to know about my arrival in Shailotali.

I asked Ratan, how is your father?

Ratan said, he is nice. He always tells us your name. Today when he listened you have arrived. He sent me to your home. So I came here to meet with you. My father invited you to visit our home.

I went to Rasu’s house. Now he is a very successful man.

Rasu asked me, when I will come to the village. He asked me to visit his home. May I have to meet with him?

Rasu said to me, I wanted to go to your house. I sent my son to make sure of your arrival. If you didn’t come. Then I myself would have come to you. I’m very grateful to Shomen for coming in. If you didn’t take me to the rehabilitation center. Maybe I didn’t alive yet. That day you returned to normal life to take the hospital. You encouraged me to produce medicinal plants. I started the work according to your decision. I was successful. My son is beside his school doing the job. Our whole family is involved with the job. Yearly a lot of profit I made from the garden. You don’t come here for a long time. So I was unable to meet with you. I have wanted to meet with you for a long time.

I asked Rasu, you don’t say that Rasu. I didn’t do anything for you. It is everything according to your criteria. I’m grateful to you. Because you can change yourself. what happened to you?

Rasu said, It is my sin, Shomen. A lot of wrong work I did in my life.!

I said, You don’t say that? What is the problem?

He told me, "he is unable to move like before. I’m getting old. So I feel my legs are very heavy.

I said to him, you go to the doctor. It will be fine.

In the meantime Rasu arranged a lot of food. But already I had eaten a lot of food in my home. I thank Rasu a lot for his arrangements. Rasu showed me all his development work. I congratulate Rasu for his prosperity. And Rasu is grateful to me again. Next I said goodbye to him and back to walking. The reader will become familiar with Rasu later.

A few times later Chitra came to me. I went out on the village road with Chitra. But I was surprised to see the scene outside. Everything seems new to me. There is no sign of that forest and trees. Once here was a swamp of water hyacinths and Lily blooming there. I had caught fish and crabs in that swamp. Now crops have been cultivated there. The Swamp lands have disappeared forever. One thing has disappeared and another has taken its place. The place that was once haunted by ghosts. There is now political party office. People are living there by building houses. There are gatherings of people. They held a procession and meeting there. There is a movement of evil people. Common people are afraid of it. I heard there is no peace among the people. In the evening there is a drug session. Often there are fights between different parties and groups. We don’t feel good after a while.

I said Chitra, the peace I came here for is no more. Chitra says let’s go home. I wasn’t feeling good. It was getting dark. We returned home.

Aloka calls Chitra in the kitchen. Chitra went to the kitchen. Aloka brought rice and dal to cook. ‘Thakur Dal ‘(it is a very tasty and beautiful aroma’s dal) is very tasty and fragrant. The people who eat Dal once, can never forget its taste. Chitra was looking at the cooking ingredients. She asked Aloka, What kind of rice it is! Aloka said its alphabetical name like b14. It is highbridge rice. I don’t like its alphabetic numeric mixed names. The rice’s name is not beautiful like before.

Chitra asked,``Now the names of rice are not nice. The names of the previous rice are very sweet. Is there no rice name like Malshira or phulpakhri?"

Aloka said, These kinds of paddies are no longer cultivated.

    Chitra says, why not?

Aloka says, the current rice yields much higher than the earlier rice. So all of the villagers started producing those highbridge paddies right now. The paddies of Satiya, uknimadhu, Malsira and Phulpakri etc. These paddies are no longer produced. Because those kinds of paddies production was very low. So those paddies have disappeared from the earth.

Chitra says that the rice was very fine and tasteful.

Aloka said, That rice was my very favorite. Those kinds of beautiful rice were very fine and fragrant.

Aloka and Chitra were talking. This time I joined their discussion. Hearing their discussion, I began to recollect my memories.

The Landlord system is just about to be abolished from India. But the influence of their name didn’t end. The famine of name will be their son, then grandson and then great-grandson. Thus when the lineage continues to grow. Then the force of their names will diminish. Their work style began to change. The landlord Rajballov understands the situation. Should keep pace with the time. So he sent his sons to the city, for higher education. They got used to the city-to -city life.

Rajbollov started business. His both sons give attention to education.

Rajbollov has two sons. The older son is named Harsha Ballov and the younger son is Tarit Ballov. In the meantime a long time passed. They are never back home. Two brothers are busy with their education. Suddenly they got a letter from their home. Their fathers got sick. They have to go home as soon as possible. After they got the news. They went home together. After reaching home a few days later their father had died. Two brothers completed their father’s funeral. Meanwhile, Harsha Ballov had passed the bachelor degree. So he didn’t return to the city. He was staying at home and got married. He became a school teacher. As well as taking charge of his father’s business. And he started paying for his education experiences. Tarit Ballov is my brother in law. He returned to the city. And he started his education. He passed engineering and got a job in the city.

After he got the job. Tarit got married with my older sister srijita. At that time my family’s financial status was good. My father spent a lot of money on my sister’s. After marriage Tarit stayed in the city. He became so urban that he completely forgot about the village. He got busy with Office and family. He could not come in time even after receiving the news of his mother’s illness. At last he appeared at home, after the death of his mother. People showed deep disrespect for his motherly devotion. He could understand the attitude of the villagers. When he understood so much, he had nothing left to do. He repeated greatly in his heart. He spent days at home with a troubled mind.

It’s very difficult for many people to get over the incident. But there is no way to undo what happened in life. Tarit consoled himself. In the meanwhile, his vacation is over. He went back to the city, joined his work and continued. A longtime has passed with work and family. Tarit Ballov became a father of a son. He kept his son’s name Shanok. Shanok started growing up day by day. They have to celebrate before the sixth month of the kids. So they have to go home for the Shanok celebration. In the meantime the summer has started. During this time the day part is much bigger than the night. The late afternoon sun can be seen in the sky for a long time. When the orange sunlight falling in the western sky reflected in the water of the lake. Then the sunlight falls on the beautiful houses along the lake. Tarit remembered the scene at his village home. He returned home with a happy heart.

When he was back at home. It was too late for sunset. I came to visit his home. He felt very happy to see me back home. I was playing with Shanok. He came from outside. So he walked away in the washing room. After washing his hands and kissing Shanok. My sister said, Shomen has come, you have to go to the market. You take some rest and go to the market. Bring some fish, meat, vegetables and fruits. Whatever you like is your choice. He rested by drinking tea. Then he took me with him and left for the market. We first bought vegetables, fish, and meat. Later we went to buy fruits. Brother-in-law gave me the responsibility of buying fruits. I will take the fruits according to my choice and he will pay the price. I took mangoes, bananas and oranges as I liked. He paid the price. We finished shopping. Later we returned home by the cycle rickshaw.

My sister was very happy to see the mango. She started cutting the mangoes with joy. She saw that the mangoes were not as beautiful on the outside, as those were on the inside. When she cut a few, insects came out. She got so scared to see the insect in mangoes. She stopped to cut the mangoes. My sister was very angry, seeing the insects inside the mangoes. But she didn’t explain anything to us. Tarit and I sat on the table to eat fruits. My sister gives us other fruits except the mangoes.

Tarit asked my sister, why did you not give mangoes to Shomen?

My sister said with a sad face, that the mangoes are not good.

He asked, what happened to the mangoes?

Sister said, The mangoes look very beautiful. There were insects inside it.

Tarit said to me, Please take a look!

I said, this is my fault.

Tarit asked me, what the hell, Shomen! What kind of mangoes do you bring? Now you listen to your sister? She is angry with me!

I said, I was just looking good!

Sister said, "Shomen is a minor boy. What does he understand?

    You didn’t see it yourself"?

Tarit said, I’m sorry it was my mistake.

Srijita said, you brought it with money, it wouldn’t have happened if you saw it! Tarit said it will never be wrong again.

Tarit was ashamed of my sister’s behavior and her words. He thought to himself.

Now is the season full of fruits. There is no shortage of fruits in his village home. He didn’t go to the village
