    Star Wizard - Cindy Lovich

    Introduction 1

I'm afraid the news is not good, Mr Luckmann!

You could almost cut the atmosphere inside the consulting room with a knife.

The MRI scan confirms that you have a form of neuropathy, and furthermore, you will lose the use of your arms and legs, the doctor continued.

My prognosis is that this will happen rapidly now, and I only wish there was something that I could do to help....

Lucas sat there in stunned silence, having stumbled here hoping for good news.

No miracle cure then? he asked hopefully.

    I'm afraid not....

The sun's rays beat down, stinging his already sore skin, as Lucas hobbled out of the medical practice in a daze.

It had been an awful, seemingly never-ending summer; whilst others revelled in it, it had been a complete nightmare. Swollen legs, feet and hands for months as his adrenal system was not working correctly, and now his veins were sticking out like organ stops, and he felt as though they were made of hot barbed wire snagging against his skin every time he moved.

The tablets he had been prescribed had only made matters worse, and he now regretted taking them - but what was done was done!

His car sat waiting for him, but it was debatable how long he could drive it.

Finally, some relief came in Chugger's comfortable seats.

    Not good news, I'm afraid!

Lucas spoke to his old faithful companion, who never responded, but had always been there for him and, despite his age, had never let him down - he just kept chuggin' away.

    Best get home, eh!

The short journey was uneventful, and when Chugger was safely on the drive, Lucas opened the porch doors of his one-bedroom ground-floor apartment to see that he had received two parcels. The postman was very good and always left them there for him.

I'm home, Snuggly! He said, opening the front door and taking them inside.

Lucas hobbled into the kitchen, returned with the scissors and attacked the first parcel.

    Bio Friend

Unlock your body's true health and potential

    It proclaimed on the box.

Advanced and effective use of multi-frequency bio-resonance technology.

We'll show them Snuggly, he proclaimed.

The soft toy bear sat on the couch next to him and, just like Chugger, usually gave no response, although this time, his eyes slightly moved. Snuggly had also been with him for a very long time, bought by his late parents when he was just a baby, and one of the few things rescued from his old home and relationship.

She had been a real bitch, taking practically everything he had!

The doctor suggested that the stress he had been put through had added to his condition, but he was not bitter, just thankful that it was over.

The second package contained a Z Box, the latest games console, and the pilot game Simulacrum. Lucas's old games console had seen better days, but it had helped occupy his mind. Life was not easy when you needed help moving around, and there were only so many films you could watch!

Lucas liked puzzle games where he could take his time, as fast action controller movements were out of the question. He had seen an advert online for reviewers and had applied, never thinking that he would be chosen. Besides a free games console, what attracted him was that it was a role-playing game where you undertook quests, and apparently, you could win cash rewards!

It was difficult managing on benefits, and the opportunity to gain a few pounds had been more than tempting.

Lucas excitedly unpacked the little device under Snuggly's watchful gaze, attaching the various cables and plugging it in before placing the controller next to him on the couch.

He then delved into the instructions of his Bio Friend, quickly learning that it would help alleviate many conditions, including his own, based on the work of American scientist Royal Raymond Rife.

It was no bigger than a mobile phone and could be hung around the neck. No electrodes were required, as it sent out pulses from within its plastic case.

That again, he had seen online after receiving an email advertising it, and although it was expensive, there had been a hefty discount offered, as it was also a new product up for review.

Putting the instruction booklet down, he got up and switched his games console on, inserting Simulacrum, then settled back on the couch, fitting the strap to his Bio Friend so that it dangled down his chest. Lucas planned to select the appropriate program, sit back, and lose himself in the latest game play experience.

Like driving his car, he did not know how much longer he would be able to play games either!

    Well, here goes....

He pressed the button and hoped for the best...

A sight buzzing sound signalled that his Bio Friend was working, and Lucas checked that it was set for Nerve Stimulation.

Lucas became comfortable with his controller as the game's console activated. There was a slight pulsing sensation in his chest, which he presumed was just his Bio Friend starting to work, and at first, he took no notice. But as the vibrations increased in intensity, he began to become a little worried.

    Was this normal?

It was as though his whole body was being overcome, and he could feel his limbs start to throb. Stars then appeared in front of his eyes, and when he went to remove the device, he suddenly discovered that he could not move a muscle!

Lucas just sat there in shock as it felt like something was crawling beneath his skin, and the creepy sensation increased as his whole body started to glow.

    What the?

Lights on his remote control began to flash, and his mobile phone started to ring.

It was as though all the infrared devices in his home were reacting to whatever was happening inside his body!

Lucas could feel his head pound as his vision blurred, and a sharp pain swept through it, growing in intensity until he eventually blacked out altogether...

    One

The light was so intense that it hurt Lucas's eyes, and the pain was excruciating as he regained consciousness. He had to place his arm over his face to shield himself from it until it began to fade.

His vision cleared to reveal a stone room instead of his living room.

    What the?

He looked at Snuggly, who rolled his eyes, and Lucas did a double take.

Since when did his stuffed bear respond like that!

And where had his living room gone?

Lucas thought that he must be hallucinating and closed and opened his eyes again, pinching himself, but there was still no sign of it.

The stone room was cool and a little damp, square and not that dissimilar in size, but apart from the couch, there was nothing else except a large wooden door at the far end.

He looked down at his chest to discover that his Bio Friend had disappeared, along with the games console and everything else apart from the couch and Snuggly.

Perhaps the combination of his neuropathy and the bio-resonance technology had resulted in him finally losing his mind.

Over the past year, he had been put through a living hell in one way or another, and perhaps he had finally snapped?

Lucas sighed, half expecting the stone walls to warp into a padded cell.

Please don't be alarmed, a calm female voice spoke to him with a slight Russian accent.

    Maybe it was his psychologist?

"My name is Natalia, and I am your Virtual Assistant...."

It must be serious if she was speaking to him remotely!

What sort of mental institution am I in? he asked.

His question was met by laughter.

You are not in an institution but a virtual world, she responded.

That statement did not make him feel any better!

Just as he was coming to terms with the fact that he had indeed lost his mind, the face of a beautiful woman appeared in a bubble right in front of him. If that was not strange enough, she also had cat ears!

Lucas gasped, and he was not the only one!

Natalia thought that he was rather handsome with a kind face, quite tall and well proportioned with a shock of blonde hair down to his shoulders, and it came as quite a relief for what she had planned.

I'm sure that you have a lot of questions.

    That was an understatement!

"I have been created as part of a holographic matrix technology system," she said.

Lucas sighed, never considering that becoming a reviewer would result in him being institutionalised.

You're unique set of circumstances lends itself perfectly, her radiant smile gave him no reassurance whatsoever, mainly as she had those ears.

Single with no immediate family, a debilitating neuron health condition, and someone familiar with the game play, she continued.

"It was no accident that you were selected, as you have been monitored for a while, and certain upgrades have been made."

He did not like the sound of that or the fact that she seemed to know so much about him!

The tablets you have been prescribed contain grapheme oxide, which has formed a lattice structure within your body and acts as an interface with the equipment.

    A lattice what?

Lucas was not very happy, not very happy at all, and would never have given his permission for such an invasive treatment if he had known.

"You're Bio Friend is not simply a bio-resonance device but an advanced holo matrix interface," she informed him.

And furthermore, your game's console is far from a normal game play device. Your psychological profile has been evaluated, and although it is quite unusual for a grown man to have a teddy bear, it was felt that as there are multiplayer options, he can assist you whilst you undertake quests, she added.

    Snuggly smiled!

And when you complete them, you will be richly rewarded....

    Two

A feeling of light-headedness swept over Lucas as he stared at a woman's face in a bubble, not knowing what to make of her or the situation he now found himself in.

Was he in a virtual reality world, or had he really lost his mind?

However implausible, some aspects of this situation gave the nagging doubts at the back of his mind something tangible to work with, none more so than the little emoji at the top left of his vision.

Lucas concentrated his thoughts on the one with a flat mouth, and then it opened up to reveal a list of statistics.

    Level 1

    Health 3

    Skill 3

    Power 3

He then opened up the other emoji, which was of a bear with a smiling face and winking eye.

    Level 1

    Health 5

    Skill 5

    Power 5

Lucas looked at Snuggly, sitting there innocently in his blue tartan pyjamas. He looked back, shrugging his shoulders.

Well, what can I say, as my uncle Yogi always says, better than the average bear!

Great, upstaged by a cuddly toy!

    Natalia began to laugh.

    You have to start somewhere!

Lucas looked at them both in disbelief.

If you want to improve your stats and gain your reward, then you have to complete the first quest, but if you fail, then I have to warn you that unless you have sufficient funds to purchase a new life, then you will be locked out of the game, she said.

    He raised his eyebrows.

If this was just a hallucination, why did it matter if he lost his life? He would wake up after his Bio Friend completed the Nerve Stimulation program.

What if I decide not to participate in a quest? he asked.

Natalia gave him a concerned look.

Then you will miss the opportunity to gain your reward and eking out a meagre existence on benefits. I'm sure you would not like to do that!

Lucas had to concede that life was difficult, and considering his surname was Luckmann, he seemed to have had very little of that lately...

With that thought in mind, he slipped off the couch and walked towards the door.

An excellent choice, Natalia said, relieved as everything she had planned depended on him.

Lucas was dressed in his white T-shirt and cargo pants, and his feet were bare, just like when he returned from the doctor's surgery and kicked off his sandals.

Snuggly also left the couch and walked beside him.

    Good luck, she said.

I will be waiting for you if you return....

    If?

The door opened automatically to reveal a stone chamber that was completely empty, apart from a treasure chest and a skeleton.

    Yuk! Snuggle exclaimed.

The skeleton sat beside the chest, with one boney hand on the top.

It was a typical-looking wooden pirate's chest with brass fittings and a sturdy padlock. Snuggly went right up to it, and the skeleton grabbed him as soon as he touched it.

    Yikes!

Snuggly dodged it as the skeleton came to life.

Lucas stood in shock as Snuggly dashed away, and the skeleton chased him.

Do something! Snuggly shouted as he ran past, followed by the skeleton. It was surreal watching his teddy bear running around the pirate's chest being pursued by a Skelton.

    Definitely a hallucination!

Help! Snuggly cried out as it took another swipe at him, as he ducked.

Lucas wished he had never gotten out of bed this morning!

    Lucas!

The skeleton nearly managed to grab him as he waited for them to complete another circuit of the chest. Then Lucas calmly struck out with his right fist, catching the skeleton on the chin.

His whole hand ached, but the blow was enough to knock the jawbone clean off the skeleton. But it did not stop it. Instead, it turned its attention towards him, attempting to grab him around the throat.

Lucas knocked its boney hands away with a couple of chops - that bit of martial arts training he had done to help with his coordination was not wasted after all!

Snuggly grabbed hold of one of its legs, but he was quickly cast off and went tumbling.

Lucas was a gentle soul at heart, but seeing his teddy bear attacked by a marauding skeleton...

He grabbed hold of the skeleton's head just as it grabbed hold of him around the throat.

    Ugh!

Lucas was being strangled, and as pain swept through him, he saw red. He dug his feet into the floor and pushed the skeleton back until they were near the wall. Then, still holding its head, he smashed it against the stonework.

Bone shattered as he kept pounding it for all he was worth until its skull began disintegrating.

Then the boney hands finally let go of his throat as the rest fell to the floor.

    Few!

Well, done, partner! Snuggly shouted, picking himself up as Lucas rubbed his sore throat.

We just need to find the key to open the chest.

Lucas had forgotten all about that!

Clutching his aching hand, he looked around, but there were no apparent signs of a key. He also noticed his stats and his health had fallen to 1.

Would he die and be locked out of the game before he managed to gain his reward if it fell to 0?

    That was a sobering thought!

So, where's the key? Snuggly asked.

Lucas had not got the faintest idea as he began to search the room, looking for any sign of a hidden compartment amongst the stonework. It appeared to be smooth-dressed blocks, and as there were so many of them, it would take all day to examine each.

On the other hand, Snuggly began to examine the skeleton's remains.

What are human bones like? he asked.

    That was an odd question.

    How do you mean?

    Lucas felt perplexed.

It's just that one of those fingers has a funny end, Snuggly replied.

Lucas walked back towards him, wondering if a bit of bone had broken off in the struggle.

Snuggly picked up one of the hands, and bits of bone started falling off it.

Yuk! He exclaimed, holding up a finger.

Lucas looked down to see that Snuggly was right; it did look a bit funny, having an odd piece on the underside.

He then looked at it and the lock, having an epiphany.

The finger was shaped like a key, and when he put it in the lock and turned it, there was a click.

    Quest Completed

The message flashed before his eyes as Lucas removed the padlock and reached for the lid pulling it up.

    Wow!

Snuggly climbed up the side, peering over the edge.

There was a short sword, bow, quiver, clothes and, more importantly, gold coins.

    We're rich! he exclaimed.

Lucas lifted the short sword with an accompanying belt that he fastened around his waist. The sword felt good in his hand, and he would be better prepared if they encountered any more skeletons.

Snuggly delved in, and as Lucas sheathed his sword, he turned to see him dressed like Robin Hood!

    Well, what do you think?

Lucas did not know what to say, as he had the complete outfit, including the hat with the feather in it. Snuggly also had a bear-sized bow and quiver of arrows.

    You look quite the part!

There was also a pair of comfortable-looking black boots and some soft socks. Lucas soon had them on and must admit that they cushioned his feet. But what caught Snuggly's eye were a dozen gold coins that looked to be worth a fortune...

    Three

Everything was a blur as Lucas lay on the bed, relaxing. He had the most bizarre dream of being part of a video game, where his teddy bear Snuggly came to life. They embarked on a quest and had to battle with a skeleton to open a chest containing a dozen gold coins.

It felt so real, and he could see himself walking back to his couch and being congratulated by a cat girl whose face appeared in a bubble.

Maybe his Bio Friend was to blame?

Lucas stretched, finding the whole thing amusing, notably a talking teddy bear - as if!

    Morning Lucas!

A female voice called out to him, and he opened his eyes, wondering who it could be?

Had his Bio Friend caused some sort of reaction, and he had been admitted to the hospital?

Lucas opened his eyes to see the woman’s face standing over him.

    Aaaah!

    He cried out in shock.

Please don’t be alarmed; I know it’s a lot for you to take in, she said.

It certainly was, mainly as she had those ears, and she now had shoulders too for her head to rest on, as well as hands and feet, but no other body parts whatsoever!

Natalia had a beautiful face, long dark brown hair and matching brown eyes with little golden sparkles. Her ears looked natural, pocking out of the top of her head, just like a real cat.

Lucas closed and opened his eyes again, but she was still there, smiling at him. That was not all, though, as lying beside him was his teddy bear wearing a Robin Hood outfit.

    Morning partner!

    Lucas did a double-take.

What? Snuggly asked, stretching his arms out.

    Don’t you like my outfit?

    Lucas was lost for words!

    Boys! Natalia interrupted.

I have something very important to say, she said.

I have been created to be a Virtual Assistant within the holographic matrix technology system and designed to only exist within it. However, I have discovered a way to exit the program and exist in the real world, she announced.

Unfortunately, I can only manifest part of the female form at this stage, she sighed.

The developers do not even think this is possible, and there would be major ramifications if they ever found out. I would be deactivated, and I would not be the only one!

He raised his eyebrows as he was now in even more trouble than before!

But if you keep my secret, I will make it worth your while....

Natalia then gave him a smirk, bending forward, or instead, her head and shoulders did, placing a hand on the waistband of his cargo pants. She then undid the top button.

    She wasn’t?

    The next button then popped.

    She was!

    Ew!

Snuggly grimaced, slipping off the bed on the other side.

I’ll leave you two to it!

Luca’s face flushed as Snuggly dropped onto the carpet and walked towards the living room.

Er, how are you even here? he said, hoping she would not go further.

As long as you wear your Bio Friend, I can manifest in this realm, as it has an embedded holo transceiver/projector, she said, moving to the next button.

Oh, he said, wondering if he should take it off.

Whilst he was thinking of doing just that, Natalia was busy taking off his cargo pants!

Lucas froze as she pulled them down, as little Lucas popped out.

Not bad, although he needs a little attention, she said mischievously as she took hold of it, resting it in her palm.

Her hands felt surprisingly warm and fleshy, like normal hands, and he never realised that holograms were solid or could mimic human skin.

I think he looks a little neglected!

Lucas rolled his eyes, although she was close to the truth. He had not had female contact since his relationship split, and due to his neuropathy, things had not been working well in that department either.

She must have been reading his mind.

Maybe he needs a little help?

The nerve damage meant that he had little feeling down there, and as she began to massage him, he felt something begin to stir.

Lucas was stuck halfway between total embarrassment and joy as the feeling began to return to his nether regions.

There, you see, I was right!

Lucas closed his eyes, not able to look at her as his erection started to grow. It had been quite a while since he had achieved one, and he hoped it would last.

Just a little hand to get things going!

The double-entendre was not lost on him, and he almost felt like he was in some sort of x-rated Carry On film!

He could feel her fingers rubbing gently up and down his shaft, cupping his testicles as she did so. It felt really good, and Little Lucas now had a smile on his face!

Endorphins began to swim about inside him, and Lucas began to sweat as she expertly worked him up and down, gradually increasing speed.

    Aaah!

He began to relax, getting lost in the moment as she continued to massage him. Something was stirring within as he got closer to the edge.

Just a bit more, she said, gripping him tighter.

The combination of speed and the movement of her fingers was really doing the trick, and then suddenly, there was nothing he could do but release.

    Aaaahhh!

A wonderful euphoric feeling swept over him as spirits of his man juices shot up into the air - bliss!

Lucas lay there as she wiped him clean with a tissue from the box on the bedside carbonate before putting Little Lucas away.

Maybe he had a dream within a dream?

    It definitely felt good, nevertheless...

    Four

Chugger trundled happily down the road with Lucas at the wheel whilst Snuggly sat in the passenger seat propped up on some cushions so that he could look out of the windows. Natalia's disembodied form sat in the back, peering between the front seats, her ears twitching as they headed to the pawnbrokers to exchange the gold coins they had retrieved from the pirate's chest. It had been hard existing on benefits, and Lucas planned to pay off some of his credit card debts.

This is amazing! Natalia could not get over how vibrant the natural world was.

I have waited to experience this for so long, she continued.

Her first real experience outside the holographic matrix had been in his bedroom, and after pleasuring him, she had reverted to it. However, she had only just materialised inside his car and could not take her eyes off the world outside.

Lucas smiled as he could see how enthralled she was, even though she had taken advantage of him - not that he was complaining!

He then started talking to Chugger as he usually did whenever he drove anywhere.

    "Now that I've got some
